Danny Cathey

(If anybody out there cares:) Spent 3 semesters at UNM, graduated from ENMU in '67 with a degree in Journalism of all things. Had visions of a career in public relations and did manage to snag a good job with a PR firm in Ft. Worth. Sad to say, it wasn't what I had visioned; it was a great job (they even gave me a Jaguar to drive) but I absolutely hated it.

Worked for almost 10 years for Container Corp of Am. in Fort Worth. Left CCA when I was going to have to move to Chicago for a promotion and there was no way I was moving up there. A friend from work and I quit our jobs and opened a automobile repair shop which made lots of sense because neither of us had ever worked as mechanics or knew anything about being in business for yourself.

Met and married Peggy Ann Harris (sometimes luck is better than skill) to whom I am still happily married. She was a Fort Worth native and had two small children both of which I adopted. Peggy and I struck out on our own not too long after we married, I gave my share of the garage to my partner, and she and I opened a Feed Store, Crowley Feed in Crowley Tx. (this also made perfect sense since neither of us knew anything about large animals, agriculture, feed or a feed store) which we owned until 2000.

Ever searching for things to get involved in that we knew less than nothing about, we opened a second business in Cleburne Tx, this time a full service pet store, The Pet Depot, in the local mall. Now we were running two seven day a week business. Fortunately for our sanity we managed to sell the pet store and then the feed store. I had visions of retiring in 2000 but an old friend talked me into working for him which I did until 2004 when I retired for good.

We have 10 acres outside of a small town about 50 miles south of Fort Worth and have lived here for over 30 years. Peggy grows iris and I grow and hybridize daylillies just for fun but it all keeps us really busy

I wish I had found this site earlier. It really pains me to see how many friends are already gone.
