I personally would prefer not to see the "Message Forum" turned into an 'Obituary page'... However, there is a "In Memory" section provided on this site for posting this information. My opine.

John L,

Gee! You make mistakes?  You could Miss Taken...  wink

John Landess

Rex, I have only made a mistake once. That was one time I thought I was wrong, but found out later that I was wrong about that!

I may reveal this disturbing tidbit someday.

I have it on good information that NM may be blowing all the dust from Texas back to where it belongs!!laugh Oh well, spring and tumbling tumbleweeds.......

Tip for today:

Borrow money from a pessimist - they don't expect it back.

Rex, I know that you are a fount of info...so what was the 'Queen Bee' ??? It almost looks like it may have been the Tastee Freez once????

The sock-hop photo made me think of some guy's shoes that were popular back then (which meant that I never had any), but does anyone remember them and what they were called. They were black and rather than have laces or be some type of slip on, they had a flap on the front that flipped forward to remove and when it was pulled back it closed the shoe......

John Landess

Well, first things first, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all the May-ers (or possibly a Mayor or two??)

Now, as to my question about the shoes, after HOURS of painstaking research with no assistance from Rex, I have found the answer (s).

They were known as: flap jacks, snap jacks, and shu-loks among others... and came in colors other than black. So another useless piece of info for all!!

I would have posted a photo, but am still working on that! (Sherry, you know what I mean!)

ps, sorry if it seems I am monopolizing this forum frown (where is everyone?)

Sherry,

Well, doing OK here in Tennessee at the moment, lotsa rain, which I know NM could use.

But other that that, getting squared away and packed for my annual run back to my home in Alaska. Info is that 'most' of the snow has melted, so good to go.

Hope that all is well with you and everyone else.

John L. these masks make fools out of a lot of people, don't realize how much you depend on seeing the nose and mouth.  Makes fools out of people who don't recognize their bosses when goofing off.  Technically against the law to enter courts and banks, but no one willing to enforce it.  Happy birthday to all those mayflies  We finally got rain, 2 + inches not in softball form like in Oklahoma.  Hope those roundy-rounds don't hit anyone.

John L aka  El Juan

In response to your RFI (request for information), it is fairly certain the Tastee Freeze occupied the same building as the Queen Bee did previously. Back in the day, the “Queen Bee” was a hangout for chicks who tried to abscond with Rooty-toots as they walked in from just down the street. Sorta like them-thar ‘queen bee’ pin-up Inuit gals you got hangin’ on the walls of your igloo…. way up north in ‘Ah’ll-ask-her’ or is it Alsaka now...

I’d rather look like a fool and err on the side of good judgement rather than one who doesn’t wear one… Then again “Brother Dave” Gardner said: “It all depends on how you look at it”….

I will echo John D with a Happy Mothers day to all...

This is a big 'weekend' for my daughter... Mothers Day and her wedding anniversary on Sunday, and her birthday on Monday. She has given orders this is not a one card/gift moment! I am sure that those of you that were born on or near a holiday can understand...wink

As for me, it's off to the Great Land on Tuesday. I will be thinking of all, (especially Rex) when I am eating King Crab, Coho salmon, or fresh halibut this summer!!!

El Juan  aka NoNookie of the North,

I was tempted to say you really know how to hurt a guy... pigging out on all that crab, coho, and hallybut... buit  instead... after consuming all that fish,  just send us a picture of your big round belly! And since you can't figure out how to post pictures, me being a good upstanding church-going lad, I'll post it for you!  Hardee har har har!!

John, I love the picture of St Mary's Hospital. It was a great landmark and I hated to see it torn down but it was necessary. Myself and 2 siblings were born there way back there in the dark ages.
I hope all you moms have had a great day.

Well, back to the Great Land.... 31 degrees this 7 am, but will be up to a blistering 54 today! The fish are already running (hooligan) and the Early King Salmon Tournament in Homer Alaska was won by a 10 year old kid. Not bad.... $87,000 purse!

Anyway, hope all are doing OK and that your summer will be fun.

John L. Enjoy your Summer Fishing!! AND THE COLD WEATHER!!

WOW $87,000 for a Kid is a big Chunk of Change!!

John Landess

Thanks Sherry.....it is cold! Went to my Grandson's graduation yesterday in Homer. It was held out side on the football field. After a late start, it finished up about 8:30 pm, and the wind was blowing off the bay....BRRRRR.

They are supposed to have the prom tonight (also outside) but when I left Homer the clouds were on the ground and it was raining!!

The boy that won the fishing tournament is the son of the local dentist who has said most of that money is going into a college fund. Back to the graduation, they announced each name and what their future plans were, and there were some smart kids there..... about 14 or 15 have plans to attend college in Hawaii!! ALOHA

Well, the sun is out and 47 degrees here in the great state! The traffic is bad... every one from Anchorage and up in the valley have decided to get out and enjoy their 3 day weekend down here.

One can only hope that they take a moment to remember what Memorial Day is all about.... the rememberance of all the folks in the service of America who gave their lives for it. I am afraid many of the younger folks have no idea and can care less. If any of you know of some who might enjoy a bit of history...

Lest we Forget.  Thank you for your service..

Sherry Hester (Trasp)

John L, I agree with you! I am sad that the Younger folks do not understand the reasons for Memorial Day, 4th of July and all our patriotic Holidays! I do partially blame parents for some of this also the Holiday marketing is so commercial and about the mighty $$ rather than the true meaning!

Don E, Yes Let us never forget!

So many to remember.  Thanks to all who gave all..  At least this year we can celebrate as we are currently not covid restricted.  We will have our parade and it will end up at our memorial park where all will be honored.  Hope you have same in your areas.

Gathering 2021

Boys & Girls and Dolls & Gents!

In the last few weeks, there have been several inquiries from our classmates regarding a Gathering this Year!  A poll was conducted for interest in the Gathering. Most have had their 2nd vaccine shots and are very favorable having our Gathering this summer! This poll was sent to our executive committee for consideration. I’m happy to say a tentative date for “Our Gathering” has been set for August 20-21 (Friday & Saturday) in Ruidoso! The plan is to meet at the ‘outdoor patio’ of the MCM Hotel in Ruidoso in the afternoon. The tentative plan is to go out for dinner Friday and Saturday evenings. So Mark Your Calendars with indelible ink!

Should you have any questions or need more information you may contact either Marilyn Gibb or myself.

We look forward to meeting up with our Friends once again… this Summer!!
