Saundra,

That is so cool your son took you to see Andrea Bocelli in concert! Did Andrea and another lady sing the "Prayer" together? I happen to be a big fan of Bocelli as well! Wonder if other classmates have seen Bocelli sing in concert?  I saw the sign for the OKC "Thunder" pro basketball team. So the "Thunder" play games there also?  Thanks for posting your musical experience, it must have been wonderful!

Rex,

Yes, Boccelli sang"The Prayer" with Kathryn
McPhee!  It was fabulous!  It was in the Pay Com Center where the Thumder plays.  There was a huge crowd!

Alice,

If you'd be kind enough to email me the obit, I will post it to the "In Memory" section.

In the future, If anyone knows of a classmate that has passed, please contact me  using the "Contact Us" (in the 'left' column) of the Home Page. An email will be sent to me. You can attach an obit or notice along with that.  I will see that the obit is posted in the "In Memory" section of the home page. In addition, once the classmate's obit is posted in "In Memory", an automatic email is generated notifying all classmates who are members of the RHS website. Again, selecting "In Memory" on the Home page brings up a list of deceased classmates.  You can select a name, read their obit,  with the option to make your comments on that page.  Thank you!

Remember 1958 in Junior High..?

07/12/22 11:51 AM #6735

Cal Turley

Rex,
Don't remember that much about Jr.High but I have some great memories of the Coasters. I became very close friends with the Founder and lead singer of the Coasters (Carl Gardner). The group came out to California to help me,by performing,at a fund raising event for the San Diego County Law Enforcement. Alice and I just hit it off great with Carl and his wife Veta and they ended up staying 4 extra days with us.Alice will never forget sitting at her piano with Carl and playing while he sang.He told some great stories including one when the Coaster showed up in Albuquerque to perform and in the beginning they refused to believe they were the Coasters because they were black. They decided to let them perform but halfway through the show a riot broke out over allowing blacks to perform at the venue. I miss visiting with him since his passing but we stay in touch with his wife, Veta, who just celebrated her 90th birthday. I guess Jr. High was kind of boring over at East Jr High as I spent most of my time trying to stay out of the way of guys who had grudges against Billy including Coach Staton.

Could it be those hoods didn't like the way Bill drove... after playin' "Rebel without a Cause"...?

For many years, to my ears, "Little Darlin'" sounded like a black group singing. Specifically, the tall guy with the deep bass voice! That is... until your brother Bill "let the bats out"... and enlightened moi.

Put on "Full Screen" bottom right

I saw Carol Burnett live in Dallas when she starred in "Calamity Jane" in 1963.  I was going to TWU in Denton at the time.  I'm a big fan....loved the Catol Burnett Show!

Rex, Charline and Saundra, I love the memories!! Thanks!!

07/19/22 09:47 AM #6744

Rex Booth

Charline,

You are correct!! Picture was Carol Burnett graduate 1951.

Saundra,

This is a cool story about seeing Carol Burnett in 1963!  According to one historian, Calamity Jane passed a rumor bragging she was married to Wild Bill Hickok a month before he was killed. He was shot from behind playing poker... hence the poker term "dead man's hand" (black aces and eights).

Well Folks,

I've had a few requests by classmates to post more of Carol Burnett.  A pretty lady named Saundra convinced me!
