Bill and I were great friends at Missouri Ave and we shared lots of lunches both at his house and at the drug store.  It is always sad when friends grow apart but the memories will always be there regardless.  No suits sounds like the Bill I remember, maybe a good C&W song to say goodbye.

I met Bill in the 7th grade at South Jr. High.  We played football together at South and became good friends.  Bill was always one of the nicest guys I knew.  He rarely had negative feelings about our classmates and was always a pleaure to be with.  While I have rarely seen bill since our gradutions except at reunions, I am really sad to hear of Bill's passing.  He was truly a gentle giant and great person.  My best wishes go to his family.  I know they will miss him tremendously.

Bill and I were roommates at NMSU for a couple of years. We had an attic apartment in an old farmhouse in Mesilla Park (Mom and Pop Conley farm). We broke horses for Pop in exchange for rent a couple of times.

I often called Bill Wild Willie, and for good reason! Bill was a very good pool player. Kind of grew up in the pool hall next door to his Dad’s drugstore on Main Street. We used to hit the little roadside bars on the old highway between Mesilla Park and El Paso. I was the decoy, he was the player. He would hustle a few beers and whatever cash he could get on nine-ball. Then down the road to the next place that had a pool table. He had a 56 Chevy truck with chrome stacks and great sound.

One night we went to a dance on campus. I had a date with a cute little Blonde from Loco Hills (Paula Hammond). As I recall Bill had been drinking a little and I had been drinking a lot. He danced the first dance with my date and really ticked me off. The liquor decided that I should just whip his big butt. He put his hand on my head and let me swing like a banti rooster. Of coarse I never touched him and he made sure I made it home after the dance! That little blond has been my wife for 52 years now.

Bill was a true friend and one of the greatest! My sincere condolences to all his family and friends.

Don’t be surprised if wild oats come up on his grave. Adios Pard!
