Gene was the most selfless generous man. Always helped anyone in need. Loved God, and his family very much. It was a life well lived. He is missed beyond words.

This was on Gene and my High School site.  It was such a beautiful tribute to Gene.  How blessed I have been.

Most of you probably don't know anyone as tough as Gene.  He was one of my best friend all through school and rode to school with me about every day in highschool.  When he was 10 nor twelve days old he spent the summers with his dad buildind fences out on ranches and sometimes didn't come to town for weeks at a time.  When we graduated Gene, Ray Marshall , Mike Trulove and myself went to work for Armstrong & Armstrong building the new highway from San Antonio,NM to Tor C.  Gene didn't want to build fences and wanted to try something new.  When we got there they split us sending me and Ray to one crew and Gene and Mike to another.  Genes crew turned out to be the Fence crew.  The country was rough and had a lot of draws and arroyas to cross.  They found out soon  that Gene knew more about building fences than they did.  He showed them a lot of tricks about building fences and was a great asset.  Mike got his hand caught under a post driver and mangeled his fingers.  We had a little house in Socorro where we lived.  The owners had a son and a daughter our age and we all mbecame great friends.  The Grandmother liked us a lot and often made cakes or beans or some kind of treats for us.  It was a great summer an a great way to get away from home for the first time.  We  became  friends with a lot of the kids our age in Socorro.  Ray went back and visited And visited with the son, Filipe Afew years back.  He was the Mayor of Socorro.   Rosa the daughter went to UNM nursing school and died from some kind of heart problems.  Her parents called me at the time and let me know.  Gene was one of the toughest and nicest guys I ever knew.  He is  made of cold rolled steel but avery kind person He can take whatever is thrown at him.  The whole purpose of this letter is to bring back some good memorys for Gene.  After he reads this letter he may get up and go build a new fence around the back Yard.  Gene is one of the best friends I ever had and I treasure all the memories ofthe things we did togather.                                        Your friend                                                                                                                                                                 Mack Kizer                                                                                                                                                                   HANG TOUGH< GENE!!!

Mack..

I read your words to him.  You know a tough cowboy shows no emotions, but I saw little drops of great emotion falling from his eyes

thank you for giving this tribute to him, and it thrilled me so much he heard it.❤️.

When I think of Gene, I think of his ready smile that often brightened my day in the sometimes not-too-friendly halls of RHS. I know he will be missed.
