Mike was another of our outstanding athletes, football and boxing were a couple of his sports.

Mike was a good friend and brother marine.  His dedication to duty could not have been greater as well as his esprit de corps.  For those of you who understand this it is enough said.

Mike was a great loss to Gene and me.  He always holds a special place in our hearts.  We loved him very much, and have many many great memories.

Mike, Me, Gene Taylor and Mack Kiser all worked for Armstrong Construction Co the summer after we graduated from RHS in "62. We were helping build a stretch of I - 25 between T or C and Socorro. We shared a tiny garage apt in Socorro and commuted to the work sight each morning in my little blue VW Beatle. At the end of each day, after working out in the NM desert all day, the rest of us were dead tired. However, Mike would usually announce " whose first to box?". Mike and I became good friends that summer. He was a hell of a guy and a friend. We (and Rosita of Socorro NM) miss him.

I remember in March of 1968 flying from El Paso to Phoenix to pick up a car.  On the drive back, in the middle of nowhere was a tourist trap that sold cold beer.  And I stopped.

As I was walking into the establishment, who should come walking out.....Mike Truelove.  We both did a double take....we had not seen each other since graduation, although Mike and my dad had stayed in touch.

Mike had just gotten out of the service or was on leave, memory fails me here,  and was headed home from California.  I was in a hurry to get home because my wife was due to deliver our second child in the next day or two........but Mike and I went in and had a couple of beers and brought each other to to date.

That is the memory I like to remember of Mike......we had a good couple of hours together.

Mike was at ENMU my final year there.  He was majoring in Accounting as was I.  He, Jack Hankins and I spent a lot of time together that year and had great fun and developed a wonderful friendship.  He walked on to the ENMU football team and made it as a place-kicker that year.  Mike graduated from ENMU and had taken and passed the Texas CPA exam just prior to his death.  I talked to him shortly before his death as he was applying for his CPA certifcate and I was going to be one of his sponsors.  He had worked really hard to acheive this very difficult goal.  It was a great tragedy that his death occurred just as he was starting his after college career.  That was a very sad day.
