Pat,

If you email me the picture of Larry and others, I’ll post it on the Message Forum for you. Looked for Larry Powell in our 1960 RHS yearbook. His sophomore, junior, senior class pictures aren't shown.  Did Larry move or something? Thanks  for taking a shot at #25.  smiley

Dan,

Could you be thinking of PD Wilkerson?  Paul (P.D.) graduated in ’61 and was on the tennis team that same year.  PD had a younger brother James nicknamed Pee Wee Wilkerson. Pee Wee was year behind us.  I got PD and Pee Wee mixed up all the time. On another note, Harl Rogers and Jim Milstead were on that tennis team.  That fancy footwork chasing and ducking tennis balls paid off in hoop, eh!  Yeah, Bob Cousy was a real dynamo!  He played point guard for the Celtics 1950-63. It was a surprise when I learned Cousy was taller than thought.  Bob was 6’ 1” but because of the taller players, he looked shorter… especially when Bob played next to center, Bill Russell, towering at 6’ 10”.

Considering this is the 'Land of the Midnight Sun', it was nice to have a sunny day today (finally), and heat clear up in the high 60's. So while I am basking!!! I wanted to say..

Happy Birthday to all the Augustines...

Tip of the day:  Be nice to your kids....they will be choosing your nursing home!

Happy birthday to all.  We have had enough rain to allow the countryside to look green for the first time in years.  John I like the sun, but have had way to much of it in recent years.  We were like the west coast with everything burning up.  Heard you had  a ground-shaker, but no high waves.

John D,

Sounds like a lotta rain there in old NM. When we were kids it was soooooo dry, the trees followed the dogs around!

Yes, that was a fair shaker at 8.2. Biggest in the US in last 50 years. I never felt it, though my son was at work in Homer and said things rattled a little. The Tsunami was not too bad... 7 inches to a foot here in Alaska, at low tide.. Roswell probably got a worse shake when Rex's Tequila still blew upwink

Does anyone have a photo of the rain-soaked green vegetation in New Mexico?  I'd love to see it.  XO

Talking about all the rain the in the area made me think of a conversation on here wayyyyyyy back. It was about flooding in Roswell about in 1955 or 6. Anyway, went searching and found the thread...... Don Ervin posted the following on Page 9 in response to Billy T:

Cuz it was 10th st. the spring river was right behind our house.  My brother and I held the front door for hours to keep the flood waters from knocking it down.  We still had 18 inches of water in the house.  Some houses washed down the street and we had a wrecker and a car stuck in our porch.  There was my mother, my brother, my sister and her three children.  I thought that they would all perish, because I was the only one in the house that could swim.  I can still hear my Mother praying to God not to take the children.  Don

Now that was some rainstorm!!

Well!! I go out to take pictures and wouldn't you know we have a terrible haze over Albuquerque! So I take pictures anyway. Then as I see this beautiful Southwest country I realize that not everyone would see it as beautiful and green as I do! WHY? You Ask! Because the Southwest greens are not at all like other part of this this USA! We have a lot of Rocks hence "The Rocky Mountains". So Charline, I do Hope you can see the Green Beauty of this BEAUTIFUL Southwest!

Wow, Sherry, SO green!  I can't recall seeing it look like this before!  It looks like Ireland compared to the usual!  Of course I see the beauty.  I came of age in New Mexico and still remember and miss the land and its vegetation in detail.  And yes, I miss it.  Thank you so much for the photos!!!!!

Thank you for the pictures, Sherry!  I agree with Charlene; New Mexico will always carry a special place in my heart and I love the vistas and expansiveness!  Beautiful 🤩

John L. while on police duty,  I pushed cars out of the street on Main in front of the 1st National bank building  in May of  1969 with the water there was literally knee deep.  2 houses were against  the spring river bridge on n. Main.  The bank and the other businesses in the area were all flooded

John D.

As I remember it, Main street and a couple of others had very high curbs, so that when there were heavy rains, the street acted like a drainage canal. I know my Grandfather and Dad always had the curb feelers and you could not park too close or the passenger doors would hit. I imagine that this has long since been changed.

BTW, After looking up 'the flood' on Page 9, I started reading some of the stuff posted then and it was fun, but also reminded me of some great folks that have moved on since the first posting in 2011 (only ten years ago?).

Also, seems like we had a lot of "contests" back then..... Johnny?

And Rex was a social butterfly!!!wink

Well, we had our 3 days of summer here in the Great Land, I guess. Raining again today, but at least I had 21 big dead spruce trees cut down while the sun was shining. I don't know if there is any bark beetle infestation in NM, but it is terrible here in Alaska.

Sherry, Great photos! I would have to change my story now, I used to say whenever I saw anything of the Sahara desert, it reminded me of New Mexico, but had too many trees!wink

What has happened to Rex?? No illuminating dissertations lately. I hope that he has not been overcome by the "GATHERING".... (still a great name for a horror movie or a grunge group)

Mettie,

OK one time,.......sorry I didn't! (adjusted again)

As Mettie put it soooo succinctly (15 times)... the Ruidoso Gathering was a success both Friday night at Farley's and Saturday evening at the 'Grill Caliente' restaurant!  For ordure's most had fried green chili rings, and after parching our throats, chased it with a glass of smooth white zinfandel!  Food and service was great! Yeah Baby!  Like the expression in football, "There's always next year"!

Our "Ocean's Eleven" group (Ruidoso style) pictured clockwise left to right is: Mack Ratliff, Alice Ratliff, Linda Weathers, Bob Gibb, Marilyn Gibb, Mack Kizer, Tommy Weathers, Rex Booth, Saundra (Bennett) Whiteside, Mettie Cummins, and Sherry (Faust) Haltom.
