Pat,

You are most welcome... wasn't it Brother Dave Gardner who said: "It all depends on how you look at it"...?   Thanks for being a good sport about it!  wink

Beautiful Fall picture, Rex!  It reminds me of Fall when we lived in Indiana.  We lived in LaPorte, a town built around 7 lakes.  Driving along the lakes to town in Fall was breathtaking! The seasons aren't as peonounced in New Mexico and Oklahoma.

Saundra,

Thanks for your appreciation of the Autumn picture. Looks like we both spent time in Indiana. I lived in Lafayette, Indiana during 5th grade.  Lived in an nice pre-Civil War home  (three stories) with a lookout tower above. I'd climb up to the lookout and could see all the way across the Wabash River to Purdue University. Acted out a few scenes from Gone With the Wind... while up there...! Indiana's fall season is spectacular!  Trees that have varying shades of gold, red, and orange which is somewhat sparce in New Mexico.  Thanks for your comments!

Sherry,

Time to take a ride. The few days that I have been in ABQ, I have seen the trees along the Rio G. turning beautiful shades of  orange and yellow with an occasional bright red one.

But, I will be heading back to TN shortly (a quick trip) and I am sure that the Appalachian area will be soon colorful also.

Wrecks,

For the last five days, I have also been an Al be querky cacti kicker!!! Just a quick trip out to visit with my two younger sons and families... and to throughly dry out my sinuses!!! A little problem in living 60 or so miles from the USA center of pollen pollution!

But back there in the AM.

Jonell,

You the same ‘cacti kicker’ who went out West to cure his sinuses, then decided to take off all his clothes and jump into a pile of prickly pear cactus?! When someone walked up and asked why in world you would do something like that…!! You said, well… “it seemed like a good idea at the time…”!

It is with heavy heart I report that Sandy Sloan Smith is now in Avalon Memory Care. 2825 W. Canton Rd. Edinbury, TX 78539.  Her husband passed away last year and she has been living with her son in McAllen, TX. She does not have access to her phone or computer.  However, she spends Sundays with her son and family and he checks her phone and lets her return calls.  She sounds like her same old self.  Even if you cannot leave a message they will know you called.  I am sure she would love to receive birthday cards.  Her cell number is  (575) 937-3201.              Wishing everyone a joyous holiday season.

Paula Carl (Cowee Miller)

Thanks, Ann, for letting us know about Sandy. I'm so thankful that she's near her son and family; I have a dear friend who has no relatives nearby and they are struggling. David and I are truly blessed to be near our children so that we can have the help we need. I hope that all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Happy birthday to all born in  November.   Glad to see members still on the web site.  My wife fell and broke her hip, so I have not been on.  She is now home and doing fine now so  I will help keep Rex and John L. in line HA!

These posted ‘monthly’ happy birthday wishes appear to be rather ‘general' and somewhat broad in context and not directed towards anyone in particular. It probably doesn’t mean much to those having birthdays that month anyway. If one really wanted to 'endear' oneself to classmates… click on their ‘Classmate Profile’ and send ‘em a birthday wish directly! My dos centavos and opine…

John L,  Thanks for your birthday wishes posted on my profile!  Atta boyah! wink

John D. I'm sorry to hear about your wife's hip situation.

John  L.  that is only  from  Rex  having spent  too much time in Califruity.  Some of us have to put as much as possible at one time because our internet service is hit and miss.  Fog alone stopped my service the last 3 days.

Mr. Blue Boy.... attracting attention to himself again?  Tsk, tsk...

John D,

Do I detect a bit of jealousy?  Internet reception might get better, if one moved out of Carlsbad Caverns...

Happy Birthday to the United States Marine Corps!

All over the world, Marines will be holding Birthday Celebrations to honor their legacy since 1775. Since 1921, the reading of Major General John A. Lejeune’s order No. 47 has been a mainstay of every Marine Corps Birthday Ball, serving as the official verbal declaration of the history, mission, and traditions of the Corps.

On November 10, 1775, a Corps of Marines was created by a resolution of Continental Congress. Since that date many thousand men have borne the name "Marine.” In memory of them it is fitting that we who are Marines should commemorate the birthday of our Corps by calling to mind the glories of its long and illustrious history.

The record of our corps is one which will bear comparison with that of the most famous military organizations in the world's history. During 90 of the 146 years of its existence the Marine Corps has been in action against the Nation's foes.

From the Battle of Trenton to the Argonne, Marines have won foremost honors in war, and in the long eras of tranquility at home, generation after generation of Marines have grown gray in war in both hemispheres and in every corner of the seven seas, that our country and its citizens might enjoy peace and security.

In every battle and skirmish since the birth of our corps, Marines have acquitted themselves with the greatest distinction, winning new honors on each occasion until the term "Marine" has come to signify all that is highest in military efficiency and soldierly virtue.

This high name of distinction and soldierly repute we who are Marines today have received from those who preceded us in the corps. With it we have also received from them the eternal spirit which has animated our corps from generation to generation and has been the distinguishing mark of the Marines in every age. So long as that spirit continues to flourish Marines will be found equal to every emergency in the future as they have been in the past, and the men of our Nation will regard us as worthy successors to the long line of illustrious men who have served as "Soldiers of the Sea" since the founding of the Corps.”

One of my favorite Marine Corps Birthday Ball traditions, is the serving of the cake. Cake is cut with a sword (what else did you expect from a Marine, a knife?) then given to the oldest Marine in attendance and then passed to the youngest. This signifies the passing of experience and knowledge from the old to the young in the Corps. Additionally, the oldest issued weapon in the United States military arsenal is the Non-commissioned Officer (NCO) sword. No matter where Marines are on November 10, they gather in celebration. Every Marine deserves to hear the words “Happy Birthday, Marine.” Please expect that Birthday wish to be returned with a dog bark, a YUT, or a loud, Semper Fidelis!

So HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARINES and SEMPER FIDELIS!
