9  Letter Word Riddle

What nine letter word in the English language is still a word when each of the nine letters is removed one by one? Take a few minutes to try and come up with a nine letter word that fits the bill, then watch the video.

Hint  # 2 -  The rock ‘n roll group "The Fireballs" recorded here. What’s the name of the studio and where is it located?

Anyone remember the "name" of this building and it's "location"?

Hint  # 1:  music

I bet Fred Miller knows...  So does the "Shadow"!!

Rex Booth,
Building is "Ginsburg Music"

The previous picture quiz is not about Ginsberg Music. Ginsberg Music was located on the N.E corner of Main & 2nd Street (201 N. Main). Tucker Brothers Shoes was next door just to the left. Ginsberg Music is not the correct answer. Please review Hint # 2.

Re "Fireballs" hint (I'm a big Sugar Shack fan), I don't recognize the building but suspect it's the Norman Petty studio in Clovis, New Mexico. For those that don't know, the Fireballs are from Raton, New Mexico.

Cal Turley

Patrick you are correct it is the Norman Petty studio in Clovis. Not only did the Fireballs record there but alot of other artist recorded there such as Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, String Alongs and a lot of others. Rex, keep up the trivia it helps keep the old grey matter active!

Rex, you are right. I would have figured it out with your second hint. I lived there for awhile in the mid 60's and was friends with Doug Roberts, the Fireballs drummer. Spent many a night at the Copper Penny there in Clovis listening and watching the Fireballs jam...

Rex,

It is my understanding that Buddy Knox recorded "Party Doll" at the Norman Petty Studio in Clovis.

Pat, You take 1st Prize for naming Norman Petty Recording Studio! Thanks for your participation! My main music man!

Saundra,  thanks for you input regarding other artists who recorded like Buddy Knox. You must have a source which is hip to music!

Cal, I can tell from your comments you've spent some seat time at the Norman Petty Studio. Naming all those greats who started their recording careers there. You know your brother Bill was very good at 'trivia' and kept the Message Forum rocking with his uncanny recall and humor!  Cal has a pretty cool story about Waylon Jennings that he should share with us sometime.

Fred,  I do recall you living in Clovis having lunch with members of the Fireballs!  When you were in the banking business in Clovis.  Did you ever cruise into "Foxy" the drive-in... It was a few blocks down the the street from Norman Petty Studio on 7th Steet. A burger and coke place similar to Greers!

Sherry, thanks for at least trying!

Rex,  I do have a pretty good source.  One of my roommates when I went to school at Eastern in Portales was from Clovis.

Cal Turley

Saundra, you are right Buddy Knox autually recorded Party Doll at Petty's studio but Petty (as the producer)sold it to Roulette Studios.Roulette Studios in NY( run by mobsters Morris Levy and Joe Kolsky ) signed Knox and released the song on their label.

Thanks, Cal, for the update!  I wasn't aware of the latest.

REX, Fair Park Stadium, ROSWELL, IT WAS ALSO CALLED BY A DIFFERENT NAME

The picture is of "Roswell's First Baseball Stadium".

What year was it?  What were the 'original' names of the baseball park?

02/07/22 12:24 PM #6565

Bill Leggett

  • Date Opened 1939
  • Dimensions Left - 340' Center - 383' Right - 315'
  • Height of Wall Left - 8' Center - 8' Right - 8'
  • Elevation 3655
  • Chaves County, Roswell New Mexico USA

Beginning in 1949, the Roswell minor league teams were reported to have played home games at Fair Park Stadium. The ballpark was also called "Rocket Park" at times. Fair Park Stadium is still in use.

Roswell had a minor league team for one year in 1937, the Sunshiners. They played at League Park.

I am not sure where League Park was in Roswell.  Maybe where Hondo Park is now off 2nd & Garden? But research tells me the catcher faced  to the SE. (that is a strange little tidbit of info)

I remember going to the ball game with my Dad. I remember the big cigars and When a player hit a home run they would stick money in the fence for the player to pick up as the ran in to home base! What fun!!
