Pat,

I remember "Spudnuts" .  They were made from potatoes (spuds) and were the rage of the town.

This company is still making Spudnuts in Farmington, NM and Logan, Utah

A woman went shopping.

At the cash counter, she opened her purse to pay. The cashier noticed a TV remote in her purse: He could not control his curiosity and ask. “Do you always carry your TV remote with you?” She replied. “No, not always, but my husband refused to accompany me shopping today because of a football match, so I took the remote. *Moral: Accompany and support your wife in her hobbies…..*

The story continues….

The cashier laughed and then returned all the items that the lady had purchased. Shocked at this act. She asked the cashier what he was doing. He said. “Your husband has blocked your credit card.”

*MORAL: Always respect the hobbies of your husband.*

Story continues….

Wife took out her husband’s credit card from purse and swiped it. Unfortunately, he didn’t block his own card.

*Moral: Don’t underestimate the power and wisdom of your WIFE..*

Story continues….

After swiping, the machine indicated, ‘ENTER THE PIN SENT TO YOUR MOBILE PHONE’.

*Moral: When a man tends to lose, the machine is smart enough to save him!*

Story continues….

She smiled to herself and reached out for the mobile which rang in her purse. It was her husband’s phone showing the forwarded SMS. She had taken it with the remote control so he doesn’t call her during her shopping. She bought her items and returned home happily.

*Moral: Don’t underestimate a desperate woman!*

Story continues….

On getting home, his car was gone. A note was lying on the table. “Couldn’t find the remote. Gone out with the boys to watch the premiership match. I will be home late. Call me on my phone if you need anything”.

*Moral: Don’t try to control your spouse. You will always lose!*

Spudnuts rule!  They had a very unusual marketing technique with direct sales, both home delivery and street vendors.  If  you could catch a bag that was still warm nothing was better!!  Wish I had me some right now.

Memorial Service for Charlotte Adams was held February 20th 1:00pm at Hope United Methodist Church in Denver, Colorado.

Charlotte's memorial was streamed on Youtube. A lot of wonderful things about Charlotte was learned during her memorial. It was beautiful.

The actual 'beginning' of the Memorial starts at 18 minutes & 30 seconds (18:30) in the video.

Sherry,

You must have a crystal ball or get RHS notifications within minutes!! wink

You are right! it is the former Roswell Municipal Airport.  Had lots of Cessna's and Piper Cubs during 1950- 60's.

Anyone have a "story or adventure" that would go along with this?

Does any one Remember When?

I remember some of those sand storms peeling the paint off of cars.  They could be brutal.

Paula Carl (Cowee Miller)

Those dust storms were extremely brutal and sand worked its way into our homes. When my parents purchased the old two story home on McGaffey my daddy remodeled it. It was built in 1902 from white pine and had no insulation at all. Just had cloth-backed wallpaper pasted onto the pine planks. Daddy would grab a piece of wallpaper, pull it off and run out a door or dive through an open window because the sand would come billowing out every opening!  He would let that settle, go back in, repeat the process, until all that wallpaper was removed. It was a sight to behold!  Then my Dad put up sheetrock and had insulation blown in to try and keep the dust at bay. After all that work, the house was very comfortable and served us well after they build the building next door that housed Carl's Cooler Pads.

Shivers me Timbers’… do we remember it well!!

When walking two miles to RHS each day, the dust storms were terrilble!! It could peel your eyelids backwards! After a month of this March madness, many of us grew ‘camel’ eyelashes!  Eyelashes which gave us protection from those high plain desert storms!

Loved the wallpaper story... and Sherry's picture of the man hanging on the pole!

Paula, was Carl's Cooler connected  to Claude Cooper in the Copper Clapper Caper?  wink

Well, I see via the weather channel and KOB4 in Albuquerque that spring is sprung in Roswell. Arizona blowing all the dirt back that it received from Texas last fall!!  wink

I was in the third grade (Mark Howell) and the dust was so bad that my dad nailed a tarp over the windward wall to attempt to keep the dust inside to a livable level. I rode the school bus that went out Pine Lodge Road and on one particular day, it was so bad that the driver gave me a little talk about seeing that the other kids getting off made it home OK as I was the oldest. She said that we all should hold hands and stay close to the fence line. So I led the Emory kids to their gate and pressed on to ours. Their dad was Marion Emory, the game warden, a local singer-entertainer, Jimmy Blakely, once wrote a song about him, after being cited for a deer hunting violation!

I remember that we drove in a dust storm one time and my daddy had to have the windshield replaced because it was too pitted to see out of. Crazy.

So your dust storm made it over to my area early this afternoon, Sherman/Denison, 60 miles north of Dallas.  We had rain during the night and all morning.  Then the dust hit...man does my wife's car look pretty now.

Rex, I don't think we were involved with the Copper Clapper Caper but it certainly sounded like fun!!  Love the Johnny Carson skits.

Paula, more fun...!

Didn't Johnny say the cleaning lady was Clara Cooper...?

03/05/25 02:51 PM #8293

Fred Miller

I find it amazing that some can keep a straight face.  Except when Tim Conway is telling a story.  And I think the elephant story is an example...and definitely a classic.

And the cleaning lady was Clara Clifford.  Hmmmm...Wonder if she had a daughter named Claudia...whose husband was a clown...and a dog named Clover.

The elephant story...

That is another classic, Rex.

Whatever happened to that kind of humor?

03/07/25 01:05 PM #8299

Rex Booth

You know Fred, you are spot on!  My theory: We were raised by the "greatest generaton" who had values they imparted to us. They were also indepedent and tough minded. We've had several generation gaps since. So the mentality has changed. I told a joke to a twenty something the other day and it went completely over his head... giving a blank look in return. I blame it on the so-called education system we have to day including the worst influence ot all... the dumb-downing media. The list could go on and on.  So for now let the good times roll with more humah!!  So let's get it on!

03/07/25 02:23 PM #8300

Paula Carl (Cowee Miller)

Rex I totally agree. We dumbed down education so everyone could "get a trophy" and now we have graduates who can't read and/or write. It's so sad. When I went back to college at age 48 I realized that I had received a high quality education. I often set the curve in my classes and often tutored my classmates. So thankful!
