Fred,

Thanks... I was thinking Higgenbottom, and knew that was not quite right. SO, YOU had a gimmick too! No wonder us poor boys never had a chance!!  crying

I did have a couple of Air Force folks on my route and both had big dogs (German Shepards). One was pretty friendly, but the other would tear out and chase me, trying to bite my legs. More than once I saw the guy on his porch laughing.

One night I came home with my jeans torn and my old man wanted to know what I had done. I told him, not me, that it was this dog. He think told me to take a water pistol and put some home ammonia it and squirt the dog. I asked what would that do and he said dogs didn't like the smell. Well, I did, a couple of days later had to use it, and that REALLY worked!! The dog went howling up the street, ran into a fence and fell over their step. After that he would just lay down when he saw me pedaling up the street. The flyboy wanted to know what I had done to his dog, and being honest, I said "what????" wink

Rex, Them youngsters today are in the basement playing games or laying on the couch with their phones!!

Mike Wiese,

What are you up to these days?  Are you still living in West Texas? Sure would like to hear from you!  I bet our classmates would love to hear about your connection and the story your town has with the series: "Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, a Dream" (2004)

Well, if the crowds at the stores mean anything, Tennessee is getting ready for the storm of the century!! As an OLD Alaskan, I am ready..

Speaking of storms, after watching the weather on KOB4 a bit ago, I hope all of you New Mexico folks have gotten your milk, eggs, and bread in!!!

Rex,

At age 19, I had a 6 man eskimo crew at the local salmon cannery, and later I dated a girl who was 3/4 Russian ( her grandfather was the original full time Russian Orthodox Priest in Kenai and her mother had been a babe in arms escapee of the bolsheviks). And that would be a real story!

But, does that help on my Olde Alaskan standing???

Fred,

Would you tell us a bit about your vocational choices, your experiences, and how you wound up in Texas?

John and All Y'all Tennessee Waltzers, in addition to thereof...  With Patsy's heart-warming song, one won't need wearin' them-thar "long-johns". Doncha just luv the sweet accent of the radio station disc jockett...

I love to Dance!!heart I love the Waltz, Cowboy Cha Cha,
Two Step, Line Dance, Jetter Bug almost anything
else. That Patsy Cline's "Tennessee Waltz" is beautiful
but a little slow for Dancing. Although I am soooo much
slower and my kneesfrown don't work so good now so that
tempo is probably better for me now!! crying
Thanks for sharing it with us Rex! heart

John, Thanks for the weather tips!! HAHAHAwink

Just saw a picture of Roswell. Snowed in. 🥶. North of Nacogdoches it's icy and bad; not bad here in town. Some rain and sleet but it has warmed up a bit so the streets are ok right now. Really cold weather forecast for tomorrow so I'm sure I'll be inside. I think I'm through frolicking in the snow-I'll leave that to the great-grand babies.

Paula, hopefully you missed most of the snow and ice.  We are just outside of Sherman/Denison about 10 miles from the Red River.  Right now we have about 4 in. of frozen snow on top of about ½ in of ice.....and it is still snowing.  Should end this morning.   Right now it is 12°, with the windchill, it feels like -4°.

Good Morning Dolls & Gents!

My neighborhood west of town has 5-6 inches of snow with drifts up to 18 inches. Woke to 15 degrees, sun trying to peek through the clouds.

'Spose John "the Weather Man" will provide an Old Alaskan report...?  wink

As Dean Martin sang, "Baby, it's Cold Cutside"!!

Update:  Minnesota got 7 feet of snow... must be real close to "Ah'll-ask-her"

Fred, we had thunder/sleet/snow last night so we're pretty much iced in this morning but it's very light compared to those north and east of us!  Hopefully we'll we fully functional tomorrow. Stay warm and be careful if you're out and about.

Well Folks,

Here at my winter abode in NE Tennessee, this morning it is raining almost cats and dogs!! And is 42 Degrees.. But more super cold coming again tonight !!

Last night, it had snowed maybe 1/2 of an inch and then turned to freezing rain. When I retired for the evening, it was 28 degrees and my old pick-up had about 3/8 of an inch of ice encasing it...

Most of the US is seeing a real winter storm, Alaska style.

BTW, My original hints for Roswell still hold true. Also if you have a snow covered slope, but no sled, one can use a large cookie sheet to shoot down the hill!

Have fun...  laugh

Below is a link to a local live cam.  The 4 lane is Hwy. 75, the road going under the Hwy. is FM 691 which is the city limits for both Sherman in the upper part and Denison in the lower.

Hopefully the link below will open to the live cams.  Scroll down to the Texoma Medical Ctr. live cam.

Currently at 1:30P, we are at 18°, with a wind chill of 4°.

Btw, Temps across the west this am  mostly colder than Alaska! I believe it was 5 degrees in RHS territory this am, a mere 21 degrees colder that at my place in Soldotna Alaska (26).

We had 16 here in NE Tennessee, and after all the rain yesterday, we have a lot of ice skating areas, I mean highways,  wink

Paula, just saw on the TX power outage map that Nacogdoches County has the most outages in deep east TX. Hope you and yours are doing okay.

My oldest daughter lives in Paris, TX. They were without power from Fri. night to noon Sun. They havetwo fireplaces and gas heat, so they stayed warm.

Minus 1 at my abode this morning. Speaking of how cold it got for one in Roswell is a story told by an ole cowboy. We had just attended our 50th RHS class reunion. A bunch of us guys decided to go out to the old Boot Scooter south of town. Our group consisted of Sanford Green, Billy Ward, Jack Hankins, Bill Turley, and me. We sat at a large round table with high chairs. We were shooting the breeze when this cowboy walked up, introduced himself, and grabbed an empty chair at our table.

After another round was served and several stories told, the old down-and-out cowboy proceeded to tell us a real sad story. He said, and I quote: "If you wanna keep your beer cold, just put it next to my ex-wife's heart..."
