Rex:  You must have had a heck of time wedging that Duntov camshaft into that 390 Ford since Duntov worked exclusively for GM and all his camshafts were for GM best I can remember anyhow .  I am sure you just mis-spoke, you likely meant Isky or Clay Smith?

If I remember right Rex's Stude had a cam( probably the Duntov) and the 390 had a wierd name cam.... maybe it was Crane or something but I am not sure.

FORD RULES...F>O>R>D> fastest on race day!

My first car was a well used 1957 ford two door 6 banger via the Benton Missouri Police department.... Pretty rough but got me back to Alaska for a summer's work. Later, I had 3 1963's, all FE's, 352, 390HP, 406..all with 4 speeds. Then I bought a '65 with a 390HP and top loader. Bought a basket case Holmon Moody 427 (ex Nascar),  rebuilt it and blueprinted at Airport Machinery in Anchorage. 635 hp on the dyno and the often A stock winner at Polar Drag strip. Made the mistake of selling it and buying a '70 SS454 Chevelle  (which I actually liked and ran like stink) but always having to fix something I was not into??? Fortunately got married???? and then had a long line of wagons, Suburbans, vans, etc..... Now when I win the lotto (if Billy doesn't beat me to it) I will get something exotic!! like another '65 vette. (another one I wish I had kept). Meantime, buzzing around in my 5 speed KIAsad

ps...Crower cams are great in the FEs

BTW Rex, I had a 45 player in my 56 Chev...replaced later by a top loading 4 track and reverb. WOW, great sounds...wish you could get a reverb set up now, Way ahead of the boom boom systems today.

Danny,  When you’re right… you’re right.  Re the cam, was thinking ’61 Ford 390 but typing Stude ’57 Vette (Duntov) .  Pardon Moi.  Had to Crane a bit but it torqued a Crowler .  It wasn’t a frisky Iskenderian but ‘twas the angry sneering cigar smokin’ red-headed woodpecker.  Don’t remember the duration or lift but it sho-nuff helped increase the top end speed ta Ah’m a Rilla while playing The Bird is the Word...

The Alien City Dragway hosts NHRA sanctioned races this Saturday 24th.  Driver’s meeting a 5pm and runs begin at 6.  I understand our 2015 -2016  races will not conflict with Hobbs or Albuquerque schedules so more peeps can show their stuff.  John El come on down and flex your KIA muscles…crying

Rex, really??? "the bird is the word"??? Reminds me of an old cold Alaska night, cruisin' in my '56, listening to good old 45's. (btw...I had a record rack that fit in the glove box, aka..the gin bin) One of the guys who was on the shuffleboard crew brought a new record, which he kept playing...yep, the bird one. At about 5th or 6th replay, I asked what he had paid for it ($1), Then used it like a pre-frisbee into the -30 degree evening. Gave him a buck, and back to lil Brenda Lee!! On to the smoky shuffleboard tournament!angel

I'm sorry to hear the news about Sherill Trigg.  It broke my heart to see her drug down by that horrible disease.  If you didn't know Sherill back when we were kids you missed a great treat.  She was one of the most vibrant, fun loving girls I ever knew.   I will miss her but will never forget her big ol smile and all those wild colored glasses she always had on.  Goodbye Sherill.  You will be missed by all your old Roswell friends!

So sad.  I remember Sherrill from the 50th reunion, too, with Bubbles taking care of her.

Bell, Sherrill Sue

Sherrill Sue Bell, 71, died peacefully on October 21, 2015 in Ft. Worth, Texas after a struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Sherrill was born March 15, 1944 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Pauline and John H. Trigg. She graduated from Roswell High School in 1962, and attended Arizona State University, Muscatine Community College (Iowa) and The University of Iowa.

In 1968, she married the love of her life, Don C. Bell II of Des Moines, Iowa. Sherrill devoted herself to raising their only child, Don Carlos Bell III, and to his education, culminating in the family's first Ivy-league graduate degree. In describing her character, Don noted that he cannot recall a single time when his mother denigrated another person -- she seemed to effortlessly live by the example of her beloved Jesus, as if being Christ-like were her true nature.

Sherrill was a passionate collector of children's books, southwestern art and handcrafted furnishings. Her two grandchildren were the highlight of her last several years. She loved sharing her children's book collection with them, having tea parties with her granddaughter, and following whatever elaborate experiments or ideas her grandson envisioned. They affectionately called her "Gooseberry". She also loved music and dancing, using living room pillars as dance partners to the delight of her spying little boy. She was a soprano in the Contemporary Chorale of Richardson, Resounding Harmony of Dallas, Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church (Dallas), and Santa Maria de la Paz (Santa Fe, NM).

She is preceded in death by her sister, Tracy Trigg.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Don C. Bell II; her son, Don Carlos Bell III; daughter-in-law Amsler Priddy Bell; grandchildren Jackson and Eleanor Bell; sister Lynn Waggoner and brother-in-law Richard Waggoner; her niece Jolene Lilley; nephew Will Waggoner; her sister Patsy Huegler; nephew Larry Huegler; nephews Chris and Gabriel Gose; and extended family.

The family will have a private memorial.

El John,   Ah meant to get back to ya

Let's go Go back to our roots including square roots...

"The Bird"  is the Word."   No kidding

The Bird Is Equal to... and Greater than the sum of all Parts of the Word...

Which means the equation by the Greek mathmetician 'Pythagoras' is:  B =  P2 + W2

Hence:  B  is equal to Parts (squared)  plus Word (squared)

If  Dick Clark love it, what does this say about... Nanook 'o da North?

Turn Up the Volume and Go Wide Screen !!

Rex, Rex.... Just because Dick Clark liked it doesn't mean much (he was high on valium most of the time, anyway). It was their highest rated song ever, #4 on the chart, and they had stolen two songs of another group to combine to make it.. Though it was covered over the years by other singers and groups, it never really improved, though it was a bit different when done by the thrash metal band 'Sodom'.....frown

10/27/15 07:38 PM #2789

Rex Booth

El John,  John El,  might as well include  El ton John too…  Juan, for some reason Yo seem to know a lot about people whom are high on valium.  What are you, some sort of doctor or pharmacist..?  For those who always wondered, the new ‘politically correct’ term currently used for a drug dealer is a “pharmacist”.

Be careful what is said about Mr. Clark,  his ghost may come ‘round this Hallowed Weenie and you’ll have to deal with a ’stiff’ one.  Speakin’ of stiff ones, how many of us remember the Apple Jack which our uncles made in bathtubs this time of year?  Some of those semi-rotten apples from Hondo were definitely put to good use!  If we recall the movie ‘Full Metal Jacket’, it was rated very highly among Vets and civilians alike.  You ask why the high rating? Because “The Bird is the Word” played which got the troops all fired up … Hooo-aah!!

Sherrill was a sweet lady and a good friend. I'm so glad that she continued singing, and singing in some wonderful organizations! I didn't talk with her as much as I might have liked at the last reunion, but like most of us, I too will remember her always. (Sherrill Lane in Roswell is a frequent reminder.)  May God bless her family!
