(I'll be out of town tomorrow but hope to have heard back from Ashley by Friday.  I'll pass along what she says.)

Thank you Charline. Good to get some news about Billy

Sure, of course, Tommy.  I think cards might help reinforce the message that we're all pulling for him.  I never really knew Billy in high school, but we've become close through Facebook because of his love of music, his sense of humor, and his great big heart.  I love the guy.  We all do.

I agree that cards are the way to go with Billy.  He has been talking some to John A but he and Lynn left for San Francisco last Saturday and won't be back until sometime in April. Thanks so much for your update, Charline.

Of course.  Still haven't heard more from his daughter but will pass news along as I receive it.  I think she's actually a pastor (not absolutely sure--educated guess) and so would doubtless be extremely heavily scheduled with Holy Week services and activities.

I know Ashley and live close to her. I had not seen this before but will go by today and ask her.

Billy told me last summer where she lived and the church so I went to meet her. The lead pastors wife is also from Roswell

I just spoke to Billy, he sounds pretty good, he was going through dialysis and He is still in the assistive/rehabilitation place.  He said that if you wanted to call or send a card or post on FB or our website any of those would be fine.

His cell number is 970-744-0738

John, are you and Lynn still in San Francisco??  Thanks for the info on Billy.  I know he's in everyone's prayers.

Fred,

Your dog Winston was an  important member of your family.  I can understand that. Including the feeling of loss when it's your pet.  When I was four, I had a black Lab Shepard mix with a white star on his chest.  His name was Skipper and intelligent as well.  Skipper was hit with a car and the memory still lingers.  So tell us one your favorite stories about Winston.

Happy Easter, everybody!  Thanks, Trish and John, for your messages to us all about Billy Ward.  (Hey, Bill!  We love you!)  I just heard back from Bill's daughter, Ashley Mims.  She and her family are in the process of looking for a house just now (talk about overload!).  She keeps asking if Bill doesn't want to move down there with them, but so far he's saying no.  She told me earlier that Bill is getting dialysis 3 times a week now.  Ashley has a brother, but he lives in Florida.  Ashley thinks Billy might be reading our Facebook and RHS '62 posts on his phone (so again, hi, Billy!).   Ashley goes on to say:

"It sounds like they are taking it one day at a time. I still don't think he's sure that he can go home and take care of himself.

"He can't have a kidney transplant until he is cleared from the cancer for 3-4 years.

"Thank you so much for all that you guys are doing!"

So let's focus on 3-4 years cancer free and then a successful kidney transplant!

Keep on keeping on, Billy.  I heard a great interview with the guy playing Hank Williams in the upcoming movie this morning.  I'll link you to it on Facebook.  I think this is going to be a great film.  The actor certainly gets Hank, and the actor can YODEL.  Who would have predicted, a Shakespearean actor from Britain, yodeling his lonely heart out.   It's a great world we live in.

Love to all, Charline

Charline,

We do appreciate the update from both you and Ashley.

Billy Ray,

Len Chandler a folk singer in 1964 sang:  "Keep on Keepin' On"

Bob Zimmerman in 1975 said: "Keep on keeping on...like a bird that flew!

Danny Cathey  sent this video.   It shows thieves removing the flying saucer from the UFO Musem in Roswell.

Now how will  ET go home...?

Hey, from Billy Ward himself on Facebook:

"This is the first I've been on Facebook or our RHS site in quite a while. Hope you're having a great Easter Sunday. I'm in a assisted-living/rehabilitation here in Loveland Colorado. I had no idea how serious that surgery could be on my lungs! I do have a positive attitude and will make it through this. I'm on dialysis Monday Wednesday and Friday for 3 1/2 hours and I finally got it in my thick skull that it's going to be this way the rest of my life. I also have a terrible case of the shingles that has gone around my surgery incision. Can't wait to see "I saw the light".

Responding to Rex's post for a story about Winston........

Nancy and I got home from work in Dallas, and our friend, David,  from across the road was over here immediately...and he had a story to tell us about Winston.

Apparently an undercover drug buy in Denison went bad, and the druggie fled from the cops.  He came down DeVoigne Rd. at high speed to Dripping Springs.  There were six police and deputy vehicles chasing him from Denison....sirens on full blast.  He pulled into the house behind ours, which was the guy the druggie used to work for.  All six cop cars came in right behind him....sirens and lights still going.

David heard the sirens and the commotion and quickly came over to our property.  By then, it was over with.  The cops had this guy in cuffs leading him out of the pasture next our place.

David knew one of the deputies, and asked him what was going on.  The druggie had pulled his car in behind the house behind us and bailed out.  According to the deputy, he was trying escape on foot by running through the pasture, which had waist high grass growing.  All of a sudden, the druggie just disappeared.

David asked him how that happened.  The deputy pointed at Winston......and said "That dog ran up out of nowhere, and just took him down.  When we caught up, the dog left.

Like I said, Winston had an uncanny ability to reason things out.

Fred,

Great story about your dog Winston!  Though somewhat surprised the Sheriff didn't come out and ask if he could deputize Winston and put a gold “star” on Winston's chest...  Again neat story.  yes

Good news to report, Lynn and I visited with Billy yesterday, he sounded good though still very weak from the surgery and starting dialysis 3 times a week.  He is still in the rehab facility and doesn't know how long he will be there.  He told us about the many contacts he has received from all of you and how much it means.  He tires quickly and they have him in physical therapy to get stronger.

We called him before we got there and asked if he needed anything, he requested a double cheeseburger with fries, he is getting better.

I'm so glad to hear he wanted a cheeseburger with fries.....appetite must be good and that's a great thing!  John, does he have dialysis where he lives or do they take him somewhere?

Johnny A  aka  Young Sage...

The Pecos Theatre is on the far left.  If one looks just under Mrs. Lee's Cafe, you'll see a brunette lady standing on the stage who wrote "My Adobe Hacienda"  Yep Tommy W. guessed it... Louise Massey of "The Westerners" country Group in 1941.

Tommy,  We know Louise lived in Roswell.  Wasn't Louise's haceinda near Hondo?
