Want to tell you a story about my Cuz Billy Turley.  Last Sat. night I was a at party and being rosated pretty good by Rex Booth and Pam Harris (big surprise).  Just because I chose to wear a cheer leading uniform to Pam's football uniform.  Soph. barndance 1962.  Pam chose to put the orignal pigtail wig on my head and told me she also had a plaque .  I turned around and there stood my cousin Billy Turley.. He had driven from El Cajon, Calif. to Roswell and then was driving back the next morning.

Now I don't know how many of you would do that for your cousin, but he did it for me.

Thanks Pam it was a lot of fun.  Can't believe you kept that wig for 54 years.

Thanks Brother Booth,  I think tou were behind all of it.

Cuz, you are the best.  I love you buddy.  Don

Hope you had a Happy Birthday today, John.......

( I stole this from my Mom' email...)

This is what all of us: 70+, other seniors, and kids (south of 60) have to look forward to!! This is something that happened at an assisted living center.

The people who lived there have small apartments but they all eat at a  central cafeteria. One morning one of the residents didn't show up for breakfast so my wife went upstairs and knocked on his door to see if everything was OK. She could hear him through the door and he said that he was running late and would be down shortly so she went back to the dining area.

An hour later he still hadn't arrived so she went back up towards his room  and she found him on the stairs. He was coming down the stairs but was having a hell of time. He had a death grip on the hand rail and seemed to have trouble getting his legs to work right. She told him she was going to call an ambulance but he told her no, he wasn't in any pain and just wanted to have his breakfast. So she helped him the rest of the way down the stairs and he had his breakfast.

When he tried to return to his room he was completely unable to get up even the first step so they called an ambulance for him. A couple hours later she called the hospital to see how he was doing.

The receptionist there said he was fine, he just had both of his legs in one leg of his boxer shorts.

Happy birthday John, I'll trade a couple 90 degree ,95 humidity Florida days for some dry kool Alaska air days.
Are you still older than me?

John Landess

Hi all, and thanks so much for all the B-day remembrances. I do appreciate it, specially from Rex.

John, I have not even been fishing yet....too busy working on my new summer abode. However, after crawling around under it wiring and plumbing, I have to admit my 40 year old body is starting to feel 45 or 46!!!

The early king run is already about done, but the big blue back Red (sockeye) run is just starting. My son just got in from his two weeks on the North Slope and said we are going, so more news later.

My daughter-in-law and I spent our 4th in Seward, watching the Mount Marathon race. Lots of fun and lots of weird folks to watch!!! Sea level to over 3000 feet and back, a bit more than 3 miles....and the men's winner this year did it in 41 minutes plus a few seconds.... WOW. Take  a look on line at some of the photos and it is impressive. I once walked up there with a couple of college buddies and it is not a hike!

Anyway, Thanks for the best wishes and I will hang on here in the mid 60 degree temps.

Aw Friday nights in high school......

Sometimes a ball game....sometimes a date.....breaking up,making up....sometimes a fight (more often than not as a spectator)....an occasional drag race.......always cruzin' Greer's and draggin' Main.....on a very rare occasion a Colorado Kool-aide.

"It was burgers and fries and cherry pies. Things were simple and good back then". ( Charlie Pride)

Now I just sit around "wishing I didn't know now what I didn't know then". (Bob Seeger)

Wow! I must have been with Turley. Sounds the same for Friday nights. Now I enjoy music, TV, computer, and what ever Linda wants me to do.

Friday Nights, well pretty sure you could find me in the library getting a head start on next weeks lessons.  Guess that won't fly in here, way to many of you know better.  After football season, Jack, Larry and I would be cruising up and down main from Greers to A&W and back.

An occasional date and way to much drinking, then on to the basketball games.

Now just watching the tube and fighting Lynn off!!!!!!!!!

How bout Saturday nights...?

"Another fella told me he had a sister who looked just fine

Instead of being my deliverance, she had a strange resemblance

to a cat named Frankestein...

Here's another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody

I got some money cause I just got paid

How Ah wish Ah had sum body to talk to

Ah'm in an awful way..."   ~ Sam Cooke

If no date and that's a big if... would cruise Main from Greer's to Wylies out west 2nd to Pop's.  If still no luck, head for the drive-n window at Papa Bears,  a quart of Jax beer, Hit the Road Jack on the radio, and out to Britt Lake for a cool swim.  Other wise we could always find some action messing with rooty toots, meskins, and/or flyboys dragging main.  Then there was always a 'road race' for a case of Coors, starting at Greer's and ending at Denny's in Amarillo by morning...  Never a dull moment!

Now I stay home on Friday nights cause every body is afraid Big Tom will be out 'mooning' cars at 5th & Main.  Ah tell ya,  Life ain't easy for a boyah named Murielyn...

I knew all of you guys and I know that when you went home from a date you all suffered genitofemoral neuropahthy a common malady of teenage boys.  Tommy wasn't the only one mooning.  I was on North Main when I looked to my left and and saw two very pretty female behinds.  The car speeded up and took off and I got caught in traffic.  I burned a half tank of gas the rest of the night looking for that car.  If you ladies would fess up to that I would pay you a very nice compliment.  Friday nights?  If not at a ball game.  Then at the drive inn for a buck a car load or at the Starlite with the trunk stuffed with as many people we could get in it.  If on a date and I had just got paid a work then a pizza at Carmellos.. Better yet a hamburger and fries made by Granny at Greers.  No date?  Sitting on the car at the parking area next the drive inn area of Greers hoping Granny didn't come hit us with that huge flashlight.

As the Statlers would sing.  The classes of of 1960,61, 62, and 63 had their dreams and yes I Remember Those.  Great time and a great town and great friends to grow up with.  I wouldn't trade it for anything..

As most guys did, I spent my afternoons during the week working on my 55 Plymouth.....in which I then spent Friday and Saturday nights dragging Main from Ma Greer's to Wylies.  Sometimes others would hop in at a stop light...and we would cruise Main.....We would stop for no reason on the side of Main.  Within minutes, others would stop...and just visit.

Roswell of the 50's and 60's was a great place to grow up.  Those were definitely fun days.

I was in Roswell 3 weeks ago visiting Mom at Casa Maria...and staying at her house by Eastern NM Med. Ctr. I got to drag Main several times.  It was not nearly the same....

Now I have to look for fun on the computer.  I love the golf games and fun poker.....and I have become a political junkie.....

John it sounds like we all did the same thing on Friday night, that is because we were all ridding around in the same car. We would chip in 25 cents each for gas and CRUISE! !!
To get the ladies reminiscing you should ask about Wenesday night (sorority night).

Cherry Newtons from Greers; I still make them from time to time! Coke, dab of chocolate syrup, cherry flavoring mix and little dab of of all things...milk or cream. Best over soft crushed ice!!! Yum! They were a favorite of my children as they were growing up!!!!

Friday nights always ended by dragging main looking for girls or a party. We had better luck if we were in Jim Stout's hot '59 white cheve convertable instead of my '54 Buick Roadmaster which had a lot more room.
