Ray Marshall
I have zero recollection of Kessels in Roswell. My family was lucky enough to get transferred to Roswell in 1958 when I was in 8th grade. Maybe by then Kessels was closed and long gone? I did some googling and found the following if anyone is interested:

KESSEL, JULIAN, age 88, of Dallas, passed away on Sept. 21, 2003. He was born on January 19, 1915 in Birmingham, Alabama, the eldest son of Abe and Minnie Kessel. Attended Texas Technological College and the University of Texas. Moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1937 and opened Kessels Variety Store. Married Helen Cohen in 1943 in Ft. Worth, Texas. Moved to Dallas in 1956. Joined the staff of Titche-Goettinger and later with Dillard's Department Store, until his retirement in the late 1980s. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Ronald Serber of Tyler, Texas and his son, Ted Kessel of Dallas, five grandchildren, Julie Sacks and husband Steven, Chicago, IL, Jeff Serber and wife, Cara, Plano, TX., Arthur David Kessel, Tyler, Cyan Camb and Sabra Kessel, of California, and two brothers, Bertram and Milton Kessel, Dallas. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 24th at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas, Rabbi Gerald J. Klein officiating. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
