John L. my family moved to Roswell in the summer of 1952 and that is when I got to see Wild Bill Hickok and the Lone Ranger on tv..  Yes, Rex I knew about Zane Grey, read every one of his books the library had and any related that might be western themed.  I currently have  paperbacks of most of his books.  My bus driver atr the ranch was Roy Rogers(definitely not a movie star), but the first Roy Rogers I knew.

Happy birthday to all the Novemberites.  How do you feel about the time change?  I survived another Halloween without the zombies getting me, only trick or treaters were greatgrand kids.  Woke up at my usual time,(4am which is now 3am).  Now I have to reset my internal wakeup clock and it seems to be harder the older I get.  Our families seemed to get along fine in the old days without changing the time.  If you are like Nelda and I, it also messes with the time you take shots and pills, never dreamed I would be shooting up 3 times a day.  Luckily it doesn't mess with Nelda's pacemaker( it is used 100% of the time).   She is literally battery operated.  Now to figure out how to reset all the different types of clocks that do not automatically reset themselves.

I echo John D with a Happy Birthday to all in November.

I had a good Halloween with Grandkids and all. Plus about 70+ trick or treaters, some of them really fixed up. Seems like the parents went all out this year

OH DON'T WORRY!!!!  I "social distanced"!!!!! I rigged up a 7 foot piece of plastic down spout to the handrail on my porch, put a BIG hairy spider on the end. Told the kids to hold their bag or bucket under the spider and slid the goodies down,,,, As for me, I wore an old white lab coat and a mask.... Dr. Death lives!

Hey, Johnny and Lynn! Responding to your post for veterans, let me say on behalf of all of our class veterans, thank you for doing that! It's a nice thing you do.

On a similar note, I have been blessed a few times to visit the VietNam Memorial in Washinton, DC. Of course, I always make it a point to go to our friend George DeShurley's name. (It never get easier.) So my question is this. Because of Walker AFB, we had many classmates who left Roswell and that we've not re-connected. I've always suspected that there may be other RHS 1962 names on that Wall.  Do you know? Does anyone know?

Steve, yes there are others.  I got to see  a copy of the wall that was traveling the country years ago.  Nelda and I saw names of some of both our classmates, but George was the only one that I can remember now.  If anyone gets a chance to see the real wall or a copy, I second Steves feelings.   I was lucky that my service time during nam was stateside only.   It was hard to see nam returnees I was stationed with at Ft. Sill  crawl under bunks when a practice artillery shell went off close to our barracks.  PTSD had not yet been recognized, so they got no treatment.  It is great that Vietnam vets are no longer looked down on.  My best to all vets.

God Bless all our Veterans. My brother's  name is on that wall. I have been to DC many times and always go to the wall for a while to pay my homage. He was in the class of 64............his name is: Pvt John R. Cummins, Jr. ( he was 19 and was only over there for 3 weeks)  He was in the 1 st CAV 101  Army paratrooper division.  I have a first cousin whose name is also on the wall ( Robert E. Lavender)  from Alabama who was a marine pilot and MIA for 3 weeks. He was my Mother's brother's son so that war changed our family completely.

I too have been to the wall many times, though I never knew about George until shortly before our 50th. There are names of many friends there, though thankfully none of family. I have had family members that have since past mostly due to agent orange exposure.

I have also been the New Mexico Veteran's Memorial Park in Albuquerque. It is a very moving place also, and the last time that I was there, they had a display inside that had photo's of every person from New Mexico who had perished in Nam (396).... nmvetsmemorial.org

My mother was once secretary to Frank Young, the president of First National Bank in Roswell. He was a survivor of the Bataan Death March, and saw his brother die on it. They were members of the NM National Guard who just happened to be in the Phillipines at the outbreak of WWII. Many folks in New Mexico are not aware of the sacrifice made by these men.

I also have seen the Memorial Wall in Washington DC 2 times and when the small wall came to Hobbs in 2000  both are Very Moving. I, like John L., did not know about George at those times. When we were on our way to Red River in 2013 we stopped to see The Vietnam Memorial there. It was beautiful Very Moving, that is when I learned about George.

I'm so sorry that the page I entered didn't show up so here's the address:  https://www.virtualwall.org. It's a really nice site.  If you highlight a name it will switch to a bio of that person. Mattie, I looked at your brother's page. What a wonderful tribute!  I know your family suffered a great deal from his death. Even though my sweet husband served in Vietnam and returned he suffers every day from PTSD and now from Parkinson's disease induced by Agent Orange. Thank you to all of you and your families who served and continue to serve this great country that we are blessed to be living in. God Bless 🇺🇸 America!

Mettie,

Just went to the virtual wall, and read about your brother. There are some moving tributes to him and to your father also... At this late date, all one can say is, so sorry for your family losses.    John

On this Day of Rememberance, I have found the names of those lost in Viet Nam from Roswell. I don't know how many may have been in the class of 1962, but some may know of them or their family.

God Bless them and God Bless the land for which they died.
