Tommy, I am definetly interested in the Redfield sketch, and possibly the Peter Hurd.  Could you message me your asking price?  Thanks!

Tommy,

See what the flood of 1941 caused?  My folks moved from Hereford to Roswell that year.  You were close to being born. Many of us in Roswell were beginning to be thought-dreams.  Only a few of us were knee-high to a zygote.  Turley that is much smaller than a minnow... ha

Tommy, I'm interested in the Douglas Weaver sketch you have on the floor hidden behind sheets, robes, 'n thangs...

If you'd like, you can send me an email for your asking price.  Plan B is to put Rex in your Weaver Will....  Better strike while the iron is still hot!!

Sorry Tommy, I just wanted toshow a very nice painting.. Didn't think it would cause this.  Do think I should show another stolen Greenhaw.

The insurance company wants their money back that they paid out for the stolen painting. According to un-named sources it was enough to buy a T-Bird.

Tommy: I hope you get a good price for them , I looked up some of his drawing an they were in the high SIX (6) figure price range, You have to understand that was the selling price.

You should be able to buy Several T-Birds.

Saundra I will give you first shot at buying my Redfield painting. I have not priced it yet but will soon. I have it in my office and I will take a picture of it and post it on this forum. The Redfield pen sketch I am going to take to Anderson Art Musem and see if they will hang it  so it will always remain in Roswell. The Hurd prints I have are signed prints and old prints. Roswell Musem has unsigned Hurd prints for sell that are very nice for framing. I have a framed Jane Davisson unsigned print called Hondo Valley Ranch that is really nice that I want to sell.. I have many other paintings and prints I have picked up over the years that I am going to sell.

Don thank you for posting the Greenhaw.

Rex when you get to Roswell we can look up the Dug paintings.

Bill L. I don't have any of the paintings that go for the big bucks.

Tommy, that sounds great!  Are you sure you are ready to give it up?  I like the idea of donating Redfield's early sketch to the Anderson Museum, so it can be shared with many.  I am looking forward to seeing the picture you post!

Tommy,

There are four more Jane Davisson watercolor paintings for sale on E-bay,  This may help in pricing your painting.

Do you know this "Happy Hippy Mom"  in Roswell?

While we are on the subject of art, I have a Peter Hurd story to share.   We have a few prints by Hurd.....the first  one we bought was "The Eve of St. John."  It was always my favorite, and held a place of honor in our home.  Back in the early eighties I was teaching a split third/fourth grade class at Chisum Elementary in Roswell.  One day during reading class the kids were making sentences with vocabulary words.  When the word "original" came up, a pretty Hispanic girl named Theresa raised her hand and said, "My mother has an original painting by Peter Hurd."  She went on to say that the original her mother had was, "The Eve of St. John."  As it turned out, her mother was the little girl in the painting!  She told me that her grandparents lived in the house in the background.  Theresa said her grandfather happened to be out riding that day, so Hurd decided to add him.  So, I actually got to meet the subject of my favorite Hurd painting (parent conference).  Pretty cool!

Saundra,

Not only is it a cool story but a small world!  If you look just to the right of the middle of the Hurd painting you will see the grandfather kicking up dust with his horse.  Did you look at the art on E-bay by Jane Davisson?  cool

Pat Sullins (Carpenter)

Saundra, what a treat it was to read your Peter Hurd story and how wonderful for you to meet the subject of his painting.  I'm sure she was thrilled to have the original especially with her grandfather on his horse in the background.  I had a couple of Peter Hurd prints but gave them to my oldest son but I would like to have the one like yours so may have to make a trip to the museum.  Thanks for sharing.  Pat

My mom found this in a garage sale many years ago and was so excited. Did not have the heart to tell her it was just a print. Still hangs on my wall.

I will be posting pics at the top of the page, the pics are from the annual, however, I don't know all the names and need your help.  Take a look and then post the names you know on the Message Forum, shouldn't take us long to get them all correct.

Pat, I'm glad you enjoyed my story.   Sadly, our print was damaged during a move several years ago.  I'm thinking that I, too, might be making a trip to the museum to get another one the next time we are in Roswell!

Thanks, Rex!  I did take a look at Davisson's watercolors on E-bay.  They are really nice, and are tempting.  Guess I better hold out for the Redfield.....one thing at a time!

Sandra, nice print!  Don't you love Hurd's paintings with the Hondo Valley in the background?  Thanks for sharing!

If I  remember right Hurd was commisioned to paint a portrait of LBJ.  When he saw it he said it was terrible and he would not take it.  I remember seeing it and thought it looked just like the president.  No wonder he didn't like.

I thought the painting Hurd completed did LBJ justice.  LBJ didn't like the picture because he thought it made his nose look too large.  Most agree the painting  looks just like him.

On numerous trips from Roswell to Ruidoso my family and I used to see Peter Hurd along side the road painting. Wish I would have had the nerve to stop and say hello. Will definitely have to stop by the Roswell Museum on this trip.

The painting looks just like LBJ's picture!  I think Hurd did a great job on the background, as well.  I like the way he lit up the sky and the Capitol.  Does anyone know where this portrait ended up?

Once again I did not get the caption with the picture. This was Hurds answer to LBJ turning down the portrait that Hurd was contracted to do. The study in the LBJ portrait is Mr. Lightfoot. He is a real cowboy from White Oaks. The guy did not look like LBJ but Hurd did his thing to make a President out of a Cowboy. The portrait did more to make a name for Peter Hurd than any other thing had ever done. I catered some family reunions for the Lightfoot bunch and Mr. Lightfoot was a fun guy and full of BS.

Over the early years of Scotty's I dorve a truck all over NM selling snack goods to bars and grocery stores. I would stop when I saw Hurd, Redfield, or Tedrow on the side of the Hi Way and get some snack out of my truck for these guys. I would have a few words with each and then get out of their way. After I started working in the Resturant  I fed them  at Scotty's. Tedrow would trade me a small painting for credit so I have a few of his things around on a wall or in a box. The Hondo Valley had a lot  beauty for these guys to capture. Meigs would bring Hurd to Roswell to catch a plane and they would stop and eat with me.These guys were all good people to talk to.
