Kris Kristofferson had mucho grande fun singin' this song and tribute to Hank Williams Sr.

Do Y'all remember the 1970's movie "Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid"...?

Dylan sang his tribute to Billy....all through the movie.

Tommy talked about this charactor he met from White Oaks who had a picture of LBJ.

A few years ago,  I attempted to steal some horses in White Oaks, but instead wound up in this biker bar called "No Scum Allowed Saloon".  The bartender was a mean surly looking man about 6 ft 10.  As I sat down he glared in my direction.  He took 10 minutes to finish his conversation with another patron at the bar before he asked:  Whadda have?   I ordered a Miller Draft long neck.  Mr. Huge said:  We only have one beer...  Bud in the can.   I remember a lump in my throat while saying:  I'll have that...

Later, there were four gals that came into the saloon dressed to the tees.  Mr. Huge proceeded to show the girls different  T-shirts of various suggestive nature.  After some laughs, the grils left and I being a southern gentleman escorted them to their car.  One reached up and layed a kiss on me that I'll never forget.   The Barkeep told me later the gal that laid it on me was the wife of  man who owned a famous razor blade company.  I left happy with a couple of T-shirts in tow under my arm.

Bill Turley can tell you a damn good story about one of those T-shirts...  ha

I have an aunt that passed away recently.  She was a big Hank Williams fan and at the end of the funeral as people were passing by they played Hey Good Lookin by Hank.......over and over.  Gave a little chuckle for everyone.

Here's your aunt's favorite.... by Hank

Do any of you recognize the young girl at the start that was thrilled with Hank Williams?

Oaklahoman Roger Miller with that wacky sense of humah and great timing.  Notice the hole in Willie's guitar.  Is that where he keeps his stash?  Roger tried real hard to mess with Willie while he played, but Willie kept on playin'... didn't miss a lick!

A variation on the same theme.   For art lovers like Saundra who love Goghing to Art Museums...  and a'hem... all you lovely ladies & the men you drag in there by their ear.  This does not include Tommy whose office & home are considered Roswell art museums...

Rex, thank you for posting the "Old Friends" song.  It is very apropos......LOVE it!   There is a Roger Miller Museum located in Erick, Oklahoma, Roger's hometown.  Erick is a small town in Western Oklahoma located between I 40 and Route 66.  I tried to find it on our way to to Roswell last November thinking it was right off the Interstate.  I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't.  I have now done my homework, so will try again next time!

John, this website is such a great way to stay connected with "old friends."  We have so much to learn and gain from the shared experiences, humor and collective wisdom of our friends.  Thank you for all you do to make this possible!  Thanks, too, for all of you who contribute!

Met Kris Kristofferson once near Hana, Maui. My boys and I had been camping on the backside and were in our jeep when I saw this fellow looking at a little girl's bloody foot. Stopped to see if they needed help (she had stepped on a pop top). Used some stuff out of our first aid kit and fixed her up. Gave him some tips on good local beaches and hit the road. I didn't know who he was until he started talking (rasping). My now ex flipped out when we got home, as I never even asked for an autograph. Actually, I stayed cool and acted as if I had no idea who he was... I will relay my Loni Anderson story some other time wink

Rex, you certainly have led a chequered past! By the way, did you hear about the guys who held up a museum? They had heard that was where the Monet was. They got caught as they could not make their Van Gogh, it was out of Degas. ( Rex,you can use this if you have De Gaulle. I told it as I figured I had nothing Toulouse!)

OK Bill L. you asked for it. I know Rex is going to add to  and exaggerate from you little tid bit. More to come from Rex. Did you guys know Rex is planning to move back to Roswell. A long this line my oldest brother has bought a home here and will be moving here next month. Big brother Cherry is looking at moving here also.

At this time I would love to hear who is and is not coming this summer. The ladies from class of 61 are setting up their group get together for around the same time in Ruidoso.  You guys know I married a girl from that class. I coudn't get the girls in our class to go out with me so I had to go with the older girls. If I want Linda to hear this I will tell her. We don't have a lot of people taking part on this page so this is a good time to let us hear from you. Thanks

Well I'll be damn, if it ain't Nanook of the North!

Did you know John L. is my favorite amateur 'polar bear rastler'?  Rumor has it, John is bragging he is ready to take on Gorgeous George.  Let us know when you're able to dig him up...  John, is it true you, on company time, were fired for picking up under-aged Eskimo girls hitchhiking to Barrow, Alaska?  We heard about the world record you set for sinking a trailer rig in that ice covered lake in only a two day stint with Ice Road Truckers...  Did you get gold medal for that too?

We are all inviting you to bring your young "40 year old body" down to our annual reunion in Ruidoso.  I sent the high school picture of you on to Maria Bigrope.  Maria is Mescalero's "Most Beautiful" Indian Princess for the past twenty years running.  Maria got all excited and said she is dying to meat you and wants to feel those big bulging 40 year old muscles.  Bring plenty of Spinach Popeye... Maria's been saving it up for you.

Speaking of Henri De Toulouse-Lautrec... in 1985  I visited Toulouse, France.  A beautiful city with a river and lakeside park in the middle of town.   I was able to get a water-ski run in during one of their tournaments.  Great memory.  There was a poster in one of the art galleries which read:  "When you ain't got nuthin'... you got nuthin Toulouse"  signed ~ Bob Dylan

John Landess

Geez Rex, I never knew you cared. Thanks

I once went to a beauty contest in Nanek, Alaska. There were 16 girls entered.... No one won! So, I am not too sure about beauty queens.

'The Gathering' sounds like great fun, unfortunately, I will probably still be in Alaska, working the kinks out of my muscles from pulling in all those King Salmon. (I still think that the name would make a great title for a horror movie, or a rock band). BTW, any fish caught under a foot long is bait!

Don, as you may know, I winter in NE Tennessee (theoretically because of the mild winters). Anyway, the true birthplace of country music is in Bristol TN/VA. The Carter family is from that area. Plug 'Carter Fold' in on google, and you will learn more that you ever wanted about all that, and the Carters/Cash bunch.

Nanook of the North,

Don doesn't need unsolicited ready suggestions about the origin of country music.
You underestimate Don's music background. Don happens to be one of our best music contributors on this site unlike some who have a puffed up image of themself.  FYI, country music has its roots not in Tennessee or West Virginia nor Kentucky.  It's roots go back to its old countries of origin like Ireland, England, and Scotland.  If you want to take country music back further, try the Neanderthals or Cro-Magnon who beat sticks against gourds.  Yes, dear hearts prehistoric men were the first to influence both Gene Krupa and Preston Epps.

John L... Maria Bigrope sez when you go to Tennessee she will take a Greyhound Bus and meet you there.  She may act shy (passive) at first but when you get know her becomes a real aggressive lady.  When I told Maria you were an amateur 'polar bear rastler' she almost swooned from desire just thinking of you.  Maria wants you to bring some of  your polar bear grease.  She will bring her own brown bear grease so you two can take turns greasing each other up as foreplay for the main event.  But first you will have to promise to rassle her "Texas style".  Then after she sits on your chest with all 350 pounds of Mescalaro love... she'll ask her Daddy the chief for permission to marry you.  But according to Mack, you must first steal her corn.

Stay tuned to radio station KSWS for our next soap opera when Maria tells John...  Oh , John!!

Not wanting to break into this witty repartee (oops that is redundant) or changing the subject but I am curious how many of you who were born or raised in Roswell belive in the UFO stuff.
