Yea Fred!

I read where that large triangular spoke is composed of railway tracks which allow the raido telescopes to be moved which alternate their view adding to the overall area monitored.  It's the combination of all 27 radio scopes which produces one huge radio scope. Besides looking for possible life in other galaxies it can detect solar flares, cosmic activity ie: the size of meteors, location of existing satellites and other anomalies affecting weather. This being just the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks for posting the google earth screen shots!  You can also post an aerial shot of your home and pond so ET will know where to beam in on you...

Pat, glad we both had the good fortune to partake of Pie Towne's pastries!  Covid played a big factor in small businesses closing thier doors. Price gouging increased costs by suppliers of goods from flour to fruit which one had to raise prices to keep from going under.

Saw  a lot of Mom and Pop stores close in Roswell during that period.  "Momma Tuckers" pastry shop closed as well. Fred Tucker at our 35th class reunion told how the city of Roswell stopped him from naming his business Mother Tuckers when he first applied for his business permit. Hence the former name was used.  Fred had a real sense of humor.

The only ones that did seem to survive are shops who sell UFO T-shirts and etcetera...

Rex, my Dad has something very similar to that. It's for radiator water isn't it?

Paula,

Yes, the canvas bag was used to refill car radiators that got too hot during the summer. My Dad had a 1950 Plymouth named "Betsy". When we travelled to Phoenix to visit relatives, Dad would hang "two" canvas bags on the front grill of the car to cool the water bags while driving. I remember we stopped at the Copper Mines near Globe, Arizona. Dad left the motor running while he got out to raise the hood. Lots of steam!! He took one bag and poured it over the top radiator tank to cool it some while slowly opening the radiator cap with rag. The other bag was used to fill the radiator… then we were on our way!

At times the motor would get so hot the motor would miss and buck caused by "vapor lock" . Before we left Roswell, Dad would take a grapefruit, cut it in half, and smash it down over the fuel pump to keep the motor from overheating gas in the fuel pump.  Those sure were the days!

Do You have a radiator or car trip story to share??

Paula Carl (Cowee Miller)

I don't have a story but I do remember the term " vapor-lock". I'm sure we probably experienced that but it's misfiled in the memory bank!!

Actually, that bag would provide really chilled drinking water as well, my dad poured many a refreshing cup during road trips (as well as a backup supply for the radiator too of course).  Hung on the front bumper, the evaporation from the water seeping through the canvas kept it nice and coo!

Cool. I checked out Mars close to Venus! When I came back to earth, it dawned on moi that Neptune was just above Venus while Jupiter, Saturn, Mars were showing their stuff. Then of course not to fergit... Uranus. Is it possible for that planet to experience vapor-lock too?

Nine degrees below zero (yes -9°), in Cascade, Colorado last night. Cascade is on the foothills of Pikes Peak, which towers above my back property line. You're at 7,860 feet above sealevel if you're standing on my front porch.

Does that qualify as a "three-dog night"?

“Three-dog night” is an expression that refers to a night that is so cold that three dogs are needed to keep warmThe term may have originated in Alaska, Siberia, or the Australian Outback.

If you think that's just a band, you live someplace warmer than I do!

Ha!  My uncle used to say "anything less than 80 degrees in Roswell is Cold "!!

Wonder how many sayings there are about how cold it is...? .

Dean Martin & companion have their say-so about how cold it is outside...

WOW!  This happened during our senior year.

The coldest temperature in Roswell, New Mexico history is -24 °F which has happened twice, most recently on Thursday January 11, 1962.  I remember that day. It was quite the event!

Wow Paula!!

Guess I should be happy that I was finishing High School in Anchorage, Alaska then.

That Thursday, we had a low of zero and a high of 22, with a dusting of snow. Also 6 hours and 8 minutes of daylight!!

I remember that well!! (Ha Ha just kidding)

ps. 6 degrees last night here in NE Tennessee and no snow..

Paula, I remember that temp very well, you could shake and spray your Dr Pepper and it would freeze in mid air.  Too cold for me.
