Jonh,

What were Pat's answers??.

We know it was Greer's on North Main.

How ever I am not sure that the statutes of limitations have run out on all the activities.

Pat hasn't answered this one, that was a contest last year that she won, this pic is up for grabs.  Come on Trish, you know you will look so pretty in one of those "Originals"   Rex, good suggestion, I bet I can come up with a T with something about the RHS Champioins.

Turley, it doesn't have to be something about you, it can be something about,,, mmmm, let's see. her!!

OK, OK.  I guess I would proudly wear one of those.  A champion shirt would be nice.

John,

I would venture to say that just about every first date for everybody at RHS made at least one circle around Greer's.

Me thinks something significant happened just about everytime we were there.

Parents to teenagers "what did you do last night?"

teenager " nuthin"

parent" then why did it take til 3 in the morning??"

Pat. A cherry newton was made up of Cherry syrup, cream, and coke.

Granny was a good friend way after she left Greers. Her husband's name was Craig. I use to stop by to see how they were doing. I was in Lubbock with my big brother when his sun came home with a real pretty girl. She wanted to meet me because I was from Roswell where her Grandmother ran Greers for years. I told her all the great stories I could about Granny. She was thrilled. My best story was how I  stole Granny's flash light. Granny knew it was me and was so mad at me she told me and my mother that I could not come back to Greers. My mom was in shock until I told her that when we heard Granny was retiring I stole the light and took it to Huff's and had all of the kids names engraved on it. Do you guys remember who all helped me get the light out of the building? I feel sure Gilmore and Turley were in on it. When I took the light back to Granny she cried and hit me with it one more time. I ask Granny's granddaughter if she had seen the flash light and she said she had not seen it but Granny told her about it.

Pat you can order a cherry cream coke at Sonic and it is real close. I am sure they don't use cream but milk is close.

Do you guys remember Tommy Marriott? Tommy and his brothers own a chain of Sonic.

Tamara Camper (Sullins)

Greers in maybe 1900 block of North Main. The event for me was a cherry newton. (But, hey, I thought it had milk in it--guess it could have been cream!) AND that was the turn-around place when you were dragging Main St.

John Merlin,

We'd like to know how the RHS girls basketball team did this year?

Trish does have a couple of points... "If" and that's a big word.  If a RHS sweetie wins this deal,  then by all means the T-shirt should be a ladies style.  If not, we could always have a wet T-shirt contest this July in Ruidoso and award a few Hooters T-shirts instead...

Harvey I do remember eating the ice and it was really good. Do you remember the car hop that worked inside most of the time but worked outside when they had a rush. Her name was Guynn. I see her around town and I will ask her about the drink. If it had chocolate she would know. Harvey I was sure it was just cherry, cream, and coke until you threw in some chocolate and now I don't know.

Pat Sullins (Carpenter)

I have ordered a chocolate, cherry coke at Sonic and it's not quite the same as a cherry Newton but very good.  Maybe it just needs the cream!  Yes, Harvey, work on replicating it for us PLEASE!!

Big Tom,

Guynn sounds familiar.  How many of you remember the carhop at Greer's nicknamed "Suzie Wong"? A few months after Steve Looney bought his hot '63 Ford SS 427, he couldn't afford the payments. Can anyone make a guess who made them for him...?   Yep, you guessed it.

Johnny,

This looks like the soda fountain counter at Mitchell's Pharmacy on the SW corner of Main & 4th Street.  Many of us would meet there to snag a date for Saturday night.  There were booths in the back with a juke box and wooden floor we danced on.  "Tequila" was played many times. The soda jerks made a terrific chocolate milkshake and gave you the rest of it in those tall stainless steel containers.  Yummy!

Back to GREERS....I didn't see the post in time to win the t-shirt.  However, I have a great memory of introducing Kathy McClain to Bobby Tucker.

It was a Saturday night our Junior year at RHS and as usual we were dragging Main street in my green Austin Heally Sprite from Greers at the North end of Main to the A&W Root Beer stand at the South end.  We had stopped for a cherry lime coke at Greers when Kathy noticed Bobby in a car load of his friends. She said,  "Oh my gosh, there's Bobby Tucker. Isn't he cute?" I had to stop and think about that a minute before realizing it was a rhetorical question.  She ask me if I knew Bobby and if I would "formally" introduce her. She had seen him briefly at the lockers when he was putting the moves on Jill Quackenbush. So,after trying to talk her out of having anything to do with that "wild" boy, I relented.  I didn't see much of my dear best friend after that. I think Kathy and Bobby were married for 50 years. She saw something in him that I had missed. They were a great couple. And, as the phrase goes; " the rest is Roswell history".

I have, as we all must, so many other fond memories of Greers and my time growing up in Roswel; it would fill a book.

Great story, Diane!  I think that should win the tee shirt!  I ordered a cherry, chocolate, cream coke at Sonic today and, if memory serves after 50 plus years, it's very close to a Cherry Newton.  It will do until the real thing comes along in Heaven!

REX, This looks like the soda fountain counter at Mitchell's Pharmacy on the SW corner of Main & 4th Street. You are wrong on this one.

Mitchell's Pharmacy was on the East side of the st. between 3 & 4th about 3 stores from the Connor, I use to work for them, also they did not have soda fountain.

Pecos valley Drug was at 312 North main on the west side of the st.

Roswell Drug was at 126 N. Mail Connor of 2nd & main West side of the street.

The picture is PlattDrug

Pat, don't ya try to beat me out of that t-shirt! I'm pining for it! BUT I'll have to study this 2nd picture. (John, you are evil.) It's a narrow little place for sure. Dang--I was also thinking Platt Drug but had it in my head as east side of Main between 3rd & 4th. It did seem bigger (in my memory) than Picture #2 shows. If either of those is right, there was no event connected except we--Philia Purcella, Barbara Fields, Mary Guynes, and I--went there on the way home from North Jr. High. (At least I have 3 points:)

I remember a drug store on the west side of Main next to the old El Capitan theater Ithought it was called Rexall,

but after 3 cowboy movies, three cartoons and a serial all for 12 cents....on Saturday afternoon who remembers.

That theater was wierd., cocession stand was out side and the screen was behind you when you walked in.
