Barney Durham just called to let us know that Danny Caussey passed this morning. Danny wanted to be cremated and did not want a service. If I hear anything else I will let you know.

I was supposed to be born by caesarean section in Roswell, however prior to my birth Roy Rogers wife at the time died from the procedure in Roswell.  Then my mother went home to El Paso for my birth.

We lived in the area of SE New Mexico for years.  First out on our ranch 50 miles south of Roswell, then in Artesia, then in Dexter, then finally to Roswell in 1956.  My dad's family had been in the area since the 1880's and Roswell itself since early 1900's.  My dad was born in the house that later belonged to the Waxler family.  His Greatgrandparents owned or maybe built the home that became the McEvoy (sp?) school of dance on Michigan, I believe.

Joe, are you related to Tony (deceased) and Bernarr Treat?

Sorry to hear about Danny Causey.  He was a really good.guy and a lot of fun.  He lived with me and Sanford at the Berkley Hotel in Ft Worth for a while.  He was with me and Sanford when Tucker passed out in his underware outside our door.  We couldn't think of anything to do with him so we took him down to the elevator and sat him up in the corner.  It caused quite a commotion when the elevator door opened up in the lobby and Tucker was there in his underware passed out.  I had a lot of fun with Danny and he was always a good sport when the fun was on him.

Did the girls dance together at South? I really don't remember if they did.

Rex Booth

The girls at North Jr. were Sooooo good-looking, the guys never gave the girls a chance to dance with each other...  The South shall rise again...

Pat, yes Tony was a first cousin and Bernarr second or once removed cousin.

Sorry to hear about Danny. Danny, myself, Barney and Alex Pankey lived together in a 4 bedroom house in Roswell for a time. Danny had just started working at the bank as a teller trying to save money to pay for his big car that he had purchased. We had some very funny and good times there.

Tommy:  I can remember well the girls dancing with each other at South, especially in the cafeteria after lunch.  Mostly the hispanic girls but others too.  A lot of the guys were too bashful to ask anyone to dance!  Hated to hear about Causey, he was a good guy, always smiling it seemed.

I just noticed on the homepage post that Causey's first and middle names are almost identical to mine.  His was "Danny Dale" and mine is "Danny Dayle".  Strange but true, unusual that both are Danny as opposed to Daniel and the only difference in the middle names is a "y".  RIP old friend.

Billy Turley

Danny,

Billy Ray Ward had the same problem. But since I am older mine was first.

Billy Ray Turley

The army guy at basic training asked me my name and I told him to which he replied " I mean your real name, not what yo mama calls you, boy"

Danny Caussey was a good guy. Played a lot of ball games with and against him. He always played hard and fair.Last time I saw him was at Larry Adam's funeral. R.I.P.

Don Ervin

Cuz, were you named after Uncle Raymond?  I always wondered.

02/05/16 10:40 AM #3055

Billy Turley

Don, I don't know,All I know is that everybody else in the family had normal sounding names but I got this redneck name. I'm surprised they didn't call me Billy Ray Jim Bob Bubba.

Parents must have known that I would be hell raisin' good ole boy. We all could have been the Dukes of Chaves County.

02/05/16 12:02 PM #3056

Don Ervin

Cuz I don't know about some of that.  I do believe we were a bunch of Good Ole Boys then and still are.  You don't have to be a red neck to be a Good Ole Boy, but it does help.

Billy,

Now, I think you might make a good Bubba.... As far as being a redneck, your name doesn't sound very Scottish and I didn't know you were a Presbyterian!!

While on names, we should ask Tommy about some of his bro's !!!!

As for me, my granny started calling me Johnny Bill when I was but a babe in arms. Later in Roswell, my old man had hired a southern bricklayer and the first thing he said was, 'Boy, who named you backwards.... that should be Billy John!'

Hope all enjoyed the SUPER Bowl... I wuz amazed about the strategy... a short guy running 2 to 3 yards at a time, helping win the game!!!! That Denver had a plan...
