Fred,

Yo iz so rat on!   Ah found it interesting there is still a colored section in the Roswell Daily Record...

Charline,

Yes I agree.  Post pictures of handsome and debonair gentlemen.  Especially single guys like John El, Turley, Mack K, and others singing Roy Orbison's "Only the Lonely". Otherwise featuring valentine ladies only could be misconstrued as "reverse gender discrimination"... Here, here!! yes

Charline Lake

Love hairy-legged guys, Fred.  And Rex, yes, absolutely!  Let's hear it for the men. heart

Rex,

I appreciate you looking out for me and the other guys.....BUT, I don't need the "only the lonely" song.

I answer up to the "Handyman" by Jimmy Jones (later James Taylor).. cause, 'I fix broken hearts, I know I truely can'.

But, thanks just the same.... OBTW... how come you didn't throw your name in the hat???

El John aka NoNookie of the North.  Are you still kicking? I heard you ran off and eloped with a 'Laskan beauty named Maria Bear Grease.

I’m a fan of Jimmy Jones’s “Handyman” as well.  However, I don’t feel the need to brag about it… like some.   How's that for 'Good Timin'...

But,  Delbert says  you “better get it worked on”…

Fred,

Rex didn't tell you that a couple Gatherings ago, he and I and Mack Kizer ( and his date)went see Delbert at the Spencer. We had orchestra pit seats. About 6 or 8 feet from the stage. Great show !!!

I guess my favorite song is "When Rita leaves" and 2nd might be "You were never mine" A number of the Gathering attendee are Delbert fans.

Any other Delbert fans out there???

I also like Jimmie Dale Gilmore and The Flatlanders.

I'll never forget that Gilmore guy. GREAT BLOOD LINE,he taught me how to play the radio!!)
Turley you mentioned Caprock a couple of weeks ago.I remember going with my parents on their Sunday afternoon drive in the late fifties to the highest radio tower in the U. S. Or world at Caprock, it was up in the clouds. Did not see the demon.

Billy Turley

Bob. If you had gone out there with Jose,Jim or Jack or maybe Adolph. I am sure he would have made an appearance. He does not show up for parents or sober adults

The tower you mentioned was the TV tower for Roswell and was the tallest structure in the US for a while; Unfortunately they did not put any de icers on the top and eventually it froze up and fall down and go boom.

Fred Miller

Billy, are you thinking of the Commanche Hill tower instead of Caprock, about 40 miles east of town...??  That one is still in place.

Pat Sullins (Carpenter)

Billy, not long ago they had a picture in the Roswell Daily Record of the TV tower after it had fallen. Since I recycle, I didn't keep the picture or I would post it.  Maybe Tommy or someone else has it.

Gilmore,

When Roswell got it's first TV channel around 1953,  I used to go over to my grand parents house and watch their TV.  Every time TV reception was lost (which happened quite a bit in those days) the TV station would put a sign up in front of a camera which read:  "Please Standby".  After awhile my grand dad would get up from playing cards Ole Saul and go stand next to the TV...  He said it worked like a charm.

And yes the Caprock Commanche Hill Demon would show up every other full moon at the Pecos River Bridge and scare the Hades out of us young innocent imbibers of Jim, Jack, and Jose.  The also set fires to the grass between the river and caprock. One night Larry A drove a bunch of us to Cherry Hill (Six Mile Hill) and we watched this yellow glow in the distance. What happed to the demon?  Did it perish in the fire?  Others claim the demon wandered in the wilderness, went south a few miles, and became the sports mascot for Dexter...

KSWS TV was a world phenomenon!!! I remember when it first came on, every one wanted into the TV business. Most of the dealers started a war, offering 30 day free trials. My old man being the way he was, tried them all before finally buying a Traveler brand from Bill Deane. It was a small woodcased tabletop, but still was over $200. He had to make payments and if I recall correctly, it went back a few times, between jobs.

My favorite memories were the "CHEAP" broadcasts in the early afternoons for us kids, showing old serials that our folks had watched in the theaters when they were youngun's!!! Anyone remember 'Tailspin Tommy', 'Radio Patrol', 'Charlie Chan', or others??? How about Cactus Jack?? When that tower went down in the big winter storm of 1960, we went out to see it. It had miraculousy fell straight down the road missing everything and everyone around it.

Of course, when they started making money, they brought on the better stuff, Sky King, Howdie Doody and The Mickey Mouse Club......and who could forget Annette!!!!!

How bout Flash Gordon, Cisco Kid, Hopalong Cassidy, and Lash LaRue.  John El you still hung up on Annette? Tsk, tsk, tsk.... surprise
