I wonder if the coaches got fired when we did not score one point the whold season. Sure was a bad time to send so many players to East. One of whitch was Dan Cook. Happy birthday Dan.

Keith,

Yes, we had quite a few skits we did during "Assembly". each Friday at 11:00AM.  We 8th graders usually performed for the outgoing 9th graders.  Do you remember the skit where Fred Tucker, Terry Green and another fellow (ask Lee Blanton for his name) put dresses on complete with makeup and lipstick.  I think it was Patsy Skipper who was the makeup artist.  These boys did a 'pantomime' of the song "Sugartime" by the McGuire Sisters.... it was Hoot!!!!   Lee Blanton teased his friend and gave him the new nickname "Daisy"... ha

Rex I did go to Mark Howell and here is my first grade picture.  I was always a bright guy and you can see I am standing next to Mary Jo Veach.

Dandy Don,

Fess up now. How long did it take for Mary Jo to find out it wasn't very smart to stand next to you?  That looks like Billy Greenhaw in the middle back row.  Is Roy and others from your Coach Eachus huddle in this picture?  More wild hickory nuts from North.  This message was approved by Euell Gibbons...

Don,

Thanks for sharing your first grade picture at Mark Howell.   There are several names  I recall.  It's a wonder and the "Miracle of the Guadalupe" any went on to graduate at RHS like Doug Pulley and his gang. However, kudos to Doug.  Like you, Doug joined the Navy and during the late Sixties one of his crowning achievements was building the computer system for one of the first nuclear powered destroyers at the Naval shipyard in Philadelphia.  Doug said that ship's computer room was the size of three class rooms containing  huge Ampex reel to reel tape computers.  A few short years later Doug bought an Apple 2 and said it had more memory and circuits in it than in the early Navy computer room.  Amazing how silicone chips changed the world in such a short time. Was there life before a cell phone?

Robert Dunbar lived on North Pontiac next to Clyde Forbes and across the street from Danny Causey while I lived around the block on North Ohio.   I remember Doug Pulley and Jimmy Qualls were running buddies.  Qualls became a policeman and lives near Albuquerque.  Have lost track of Doug Pulley.   More left-hand threaded 'nuts' & bolts to come...

Early 1960's Ampex computer.

70 ------ 70 ------ 70 ------ 70

While some of us have already hit this big number and some will reach it next year (yes there are a few) most of us will hit it this year.  I thought the following even more relevant now than ever.  Hope you enjoy.

You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years.   It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate.  Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went.  I know that I lived them all.  I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.

But, here it is - the 'back nine' of my life and it catches me by surprise.  How did I get here so fast?  Where did the years go and where did my youth go?  I  remember vividly seeing older people through the years and thinking that  those older people were years away from me and that 'I was only on the first hole' and the 'back nine' was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.

But, here it is . . . my friends are retired and getting grey.  They move slower and I see an older person now.  Some are in better and some worse shape than me, but, I see the great change.  Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant . . . but like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become.  Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day!  And taking a nap is not a treat anymore . . . it's mandatory!  Because if I don't on my own free will, I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!  But, at least I know, that though I’m on the 'back nine,' and I'm not sure how long it will last, this I know for sure, that when it's over on this earth . . . it's over.  A new adventure will begin!

Yes, I have regrets.  There are things I wish I hadn't done . . . things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done.  It's all in a lifetime.

So, if you're not on the 'back nine' yet . . .let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think.  So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly!  Don't put things off too long!  Life goes by quickly.  So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether you’re on the 'back nine' or not!  You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life . . .so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember, and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in > all the years past!

"Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after.  Make > it a fantastic one.

LIVE IT WELL!

ENJOY TODAY!

DO SOMETHING FUN!

BE HAPPY!

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Remember, "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver."

LIVE HAPPY IN 2014

John we are not old.  We are just not young anymore.  The way it works with me is this way.  All my friends I grew up with especially the girls will    always be forever 17 in my mind.

From a Delbert McClinton song  " I ain't old,but I've been around a long time."

I have no idea who that girl is in the pic but she sure is cute.

I don't know who she is either but she's very pretty!  And, no, we're not old.....we're just "out of youth"!

Bill,

That song by Delbert McClinton sorta grew on ya right?  Or maybe  we're grownin' in spite of it....?  Are you gonna tell our class the name of the Delber album or do I hafta do it?  ha

Then again, I'll always remember Pat Riley's favorite by the great poet Bob Dylan:  "Forever Young"

Dandy Don, our ladies are aging like 'fine wine'.   My favorite song: "When I was Seventeen (It was a very good year)"  by Sinatra.   Anyone who wishes to get the Delbert, Dylan, or Sinatra songs... just send you email to myself, Don, Tommy Weathers, and/or the all time music jock Pat Riley.... and we'll send you the song by email.   Unless our RHS Merlin the Magician can post these MP3 songs.

What about it Johnny?

Thanks John. Last year we lost some friends that did not know they were on the 9th hole. Well John I would like to tell all of you how much you guys have ment to me. I have always said that we grew up in the best place and the absolute best time ever. Friends that we Email, facebook, or talk to on this message forum seem normal to us but it is not normal. Lots of people leave their home town and never look back. Thank all of you and many others that do not have this forum for being my friend. Do not let a minute excape. Grab life with all you have and thank God for what he has given us. Since I am not a golfer I would like to think that I am still struggling to finish the 8th hole. Let's not rush anything.

Tommy you got it made.  Golf is 18 holes.  When you finish the ninth hole.  Go to the clubhouse, get a beer and toast to absent friends.
