Glad Cherry is doing better, Tommy.  Do you think he'll still move here in the spring?

Tommy,  I confess that I lied about the $5ooo.  I don't even think you offered $.50 .  I showed everyone who #25 was the last gathering in August.  You just want to keep the deal going so there is something to talk about on the message forum.  Find another mystery to explore. MK

I saw the blown up pictures of Johnny Cole at the Gathering that Mountain Mack mentioned.  There was some resemblance in the hair line, ears, etc. But even if one was an expert in computer forensic facial reconstruction and added a little photo-shop one could make the imaginary # 25 look like Elvis... While at the Gathering, I called John Madden in Amarillo who is a close friend Johnny Cole.  John Madden’s response was Johnny Cole was a studious bookworm and never played basketball.

For some reason, I believe it was our beloved Truett Worley the school photographer, who as a gag, put the alien up to posing with the junior varsity of 1960.  Mack may be right.  Both Truett and Johnny C may be laughing their ass off.  There were several who affectionately called Truett Worley “Huckleberry Hound” after the cartoon character because the quality of their voices and sad eyes were similar.  If Gilmore didn’t sell any AAA policy to # 25,  then he doesn’t exist and is a figment of some’s imagination.  It’s too bad Mary Ann didn’t come out this summer to treat all these cases of strange imaginings and delusions of grandeur.  She would have had a field day!!  cheeky

Tommy Weathers sent this picture video of Elvis and Tom Jones today.

Tommy said: “Wow! I did not know Elvis did this Tom Jones song! Thought I had heard everything Elvis ever sang...”

Thank you Tommy!.

El Juan,

It’s down right thoughtful of you putting out those subtle feelers for any dinner invitation this Thanksgiving.   crying

Gilmore would probably suggest I put a set of curb feelers on my 1979 Ranchero and cruise over to my Roswell buddies houses around midnight.  Then scratch their curbs with the feelers  backing up and going forward while playing Bob Dylan songs full blast... until my cell phone starts to ring.   devil

Turley, the sound of silence is almost deafening.  Have a nice one in San Diego!

My best to all of you for this coming Thanksgiving holiday.  We leave early tomorrow headed to Roswell to spend Thanksgiving with my Mom.  She loves seeing our dogs, and will not let us in her house without them.

And we will go hoarse Thursday afternoon hollering for the Cowboys...!!

Tommy

Thanks for sharing your experience with Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs in 1963.  The original Fireballs were from Raton in northern New Mexico. (Did we mention New Mexico?)  Yes!  Gilmer later joined the band and the rest is history.  His distant relative Bob was Gil-more… which might mean he gave more effort when selling AAA.   A side note: Tommy’s brother Rusty Weathers knew Jimmy who graduated in Amarillo (1958).

This video is an interview with the late Jimmy Gilmer. The Fireballs had other fine company with Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison who also recorded at the Norman Petty studio in Clovis, NM.  Just ask Dandy Don and he'll send you some cool music by the FireBalls.  Johnny A,  can you reduce the volume on Sugar Shack so others can listen to this video...? cheeky

In 1965, I moved to Clovis and was working for a finance company.  My wife stayed in Roswell with her parents because she was about 6 months pregnant with our son, and she did not want to leave her doctor.  I came home every weekend.

One of my customers was Doug Roberts who was the drummer for the Fireballs.  He became a friend.  They would jam at the Copper Penny in Clovis.....Jimmy Gilmore would even join in sometimes.  I spent many a night up there with them.  They were some neat people.
