In 1965, I moved to Clovis and was working for a finance company.  My wife stayed in Roswell with her parents because she was about 6 months pregnant with our son, and she did not want to leave her doctor.  I came home every weekend.

One of my customers was Doug Roberts who was the drummer for the Fireballs.  He became a friend.  They would jam at the Copper Penny in Clovis.....Jimmy Gilmore would even join in sometimes.  I spent many a night up there with them.  They were some neat people.

I had a chance to insure the "Sugar Shack",but the tracks were to close.

My guess is that the Sugar Shack was on the other side of the track.

Mack K. Happy birthday to an old friend and many more.

Speaking of Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs I remember a dance held at the National Guard Armory just west of Roswell where JG and the Fireballs were the band. This (I think) was pre '62. Yep, he sang Sugarshack. I don't recall who was promoting this dance (maybe one of the car clubs?) but do remember Bobby Coons invited the band to meet at a restraunt on South Main for dinner after the dance. Gilmer didn't show up but some of the other band members did.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes,  all the cards and the many presants.   The UPS driver said I was causing him to be overworked so please don't send any more gifts.  I've already got to much stuff.                       The Furballs use to be the house band at the Mabrey lounge in Clovis in the late 60s and into 70s.  Use to go there a lot when going to school at Eastern.  I worked for Virgil Beagles for about 6 months in 1970 helping him so he could be out of town on some business.  The Furballs lived right next to our used car lot and those guys were always out in the yard messing around.  I would B S with them nearly every day.  Remember they had a really nice Olds Tornado.  They were just good ole NM boys about my same age and fun to talk to.

Good story Mack. I remember we went to Clovis and the FB were playing at some club. I am sure we just went to see them and not to look for girls. Sam and Mack I will see you guys in Ruidoso for Christmas. Sam I will be in Dallas the 8th. Cherry gets the other leg done on the 9th. I don't know how he can stand to do it again.

Tommy, Please relay our best wishes to Cherry. I had that sme thing done on both legs. It ain't no damned fun,but it pretty much outweighs the alternative.

Happy birthday Charlotte.  I been trying to figure this out.  When we first met in 1943 your birthday was on the 1st of Dec.  Then in highschool it switched to the 2nd.  then when we were in our 40's it was on the 3rd of Dec. Now it's on the 5th.  Is this some kind of clever ploy to get younger?.  Anyway no matter how old you are I still love you.  Have a great birthday.   MK
